This sounds like a GTR for grown-ups, and when I grow up I'd probably like one. I've always thought that there would be a market for a nicely trimmed more refined version of Japanese sports cars-400bhp with real English leather and wilton, and no spoilers could almost make Impreza's and Evo's acceptable in polite society.Although expecting potential Maserati or CL buyers to buy a Datsun may be stretching a point.

Subaru has already done something similar with the Impreza called the Spec D.

Alot has changed in the world since the GTR was announced exchange rates are a clearly a major factor and will continue to be for the forseeable for many manufacturers

However one thing has'nt changed and that is just how fabulous the car is particularly in comparison with either what else you could buy for the same price or double or even treble the price in some cases

GTR coupe £ 54440
911 Carrera S pdk £ 72698 + spec
Aston Vantage £ 86000
Audi R8 R Tronic £ 84455 / 5.2 £ 104210 !
BMW M6 Coupe SMG £ 83245
F430 Coup £ 135230 + spec
Jaguar XKR Portfolio £ 64440
Maserati Gran Tourismo 4.7 £ 89445
Porsche 911 Turbo £ 108526
Havent listed GT2 as I cant face the backlash
all figs approx

I now sit back awaiting a flaming for comparing a Japanese car with far more prestigious brands however Datsun became Nissan in 1981 some 28 years ago.

I expect once deliveries of this years orders are delivered a further hike in price will be inevitable £ 65 -70k quite possible

However back to the post main topic 'soft version with wood and possibly caramel velour trim' NO NO NO NO NO

A 4 door now theres a thought

Unfortunately, with pre and post track day inspections( with no warranty in-between) 6 month servicing, annual maintenance inspections (free, but not the adjustments)a set of 4 discs and pads fitted at circa 3 and a half grand from a HPC, it's got running costs signifcantly above all of them.

Of course, you'd be an idiot not too,but the the spur of the moment track day ( lets say decide wednesday,go friday)with a GTR is non existent, with the logistics of getting it to a HPC within the time frame, and then running around without a warranty until you get it back to the HPC afterwards. It was one of the reasons for me cancelling, along with the VDC farce.

m-spec is nothing new... they brought it out for the r-34 when the new CEO took over and wanted something more sedate and comfortable for "motorway crusing" thats what the m stands for btw... still hardcore just a bit softer round the edges. next will be the limited limited edition NUR edition i guess which came with a little gold plate on the engine and some gold stitching on the seats... BIG BERRIES!!

Isn't the VDC/LC farce USA only? The USA have a very warped litigation culture so it isn't a surprise.
L.C has been relaunched ( excuse the pun)at softer revs with still VDC on. If VDC is turned off in any application(other than to release car from snow etc, and the car can tell!)then you have no warranty if anything breaks relating to VDC being off, track or everyday road driving.

For what the car does I didn't think the servicing was so bad, I know it's every 6 months but the totals are approx..

Year 1 £820
Year 2 £1350
Year 3 £1000
Year 4 £1650

Saying that, those sticky Dunlops have got to be about 400 notes a corner. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Also could someone explain this track day inspection to me as I'm not too sure what your on about. Seriously considering getting one of these this summer. I tried to search the Forum about the launch control problems but it seems that every thread ends in a argument and it became a tad tedious !

Just ring an HPC, it's easier than trying to wade through all the teeth-gnashing.

Nice pun! hehe

The short version, a few vocal yanks buy brand new GTR's then use LC at every stop light for a few thousand miles and break their gearboxes, unsuprisingly. Nissan accuse the customers of taking the piss and refuse to replace under warrantee so to the internet they go- with American forums being like they are - if you don't love a car, you must hate it - a mountain was bourne from a molehill within the domestic crowd.

If I was buying a GTR the LC thing would be the least of my concerns.
Yep, least of mine too. Thanks for replies.

Doshy, think you've been misinformed, these figures were from my HPC a month ago.

G1 – 6000/6 months £223.41 plus VAT, G2 – 12,000/12 months £459.31 plus VAT, G1 18,000/18 months £815.71 plus VAT (this includes gearbox oil change), G3 24,000/24 months £643.56 plus VAT, G1 30,000/30 months £223.41 plus VAT, G2 36,000/36 months £1205.61 plus VAT (this includes secondary air filter, pollen filter, diff oil and gearbox oil). All services are time dependent,so even if you do 1000 miles a year it's the same.

So year 1-£785.12
2-£1714.64
3-£1679.09
The above assumes 15% vat on this year, and 17.5% on year 2/3

Tyres around £400 per corner (20” runflats are never going to be cheap!). Front pads are £821 plus VAT, rear pads are £663 plus Vat, and discs are £661 plus VAT for a pair (front or rear, plus labour to be around £240 to replace all four discs and pads, which adds up to £3502.90 at 15%vat.!!!!!!!!

The likes of Litchfield Imports will be cheaper than a HPC of course.

Thanks for that. Still doesn't look too bad though. I can see me getting through a set of rears fairly swiftly but I'm not interested in taking it on the track and would hope the disks would last for the the 18 months / 2 years I intend to own it for. Do we know about disc wear on these? is it excessive?

The AP rotors and pads for the front which Middlehursts are supplying, which are supposedly better anyway are no where nissans prices, i think from memory front pads are around £400 and discs £300.
Plus a pre track day inspection isnt required for warranty but a post inspection is.
Middlehursts are quoting £ 650 for both services year 1.

Maxx-waxx, when did Nissan delete the pre-track inspection?

Spoke with andy middlehurst, plus warranty booklet states that it is recommended AFTER circuit driving to take your car to HPC to have warranty reinstatement inspection done.
Middlehursts are also sending a number of mechanics on pre arranged track days so that you can have your post inspection done there rather than take a day off work etc to take the car in
