New BMW's getting stolen using blank BMW keys
Discussion
Radio Two said that Range Rovers are being pulled over in Kensington and drivers are being asked to prove they are the owners, because so many are being stolen using keyless entry.

Apologies if this has been covered, but does anyone know very specifically if the current F series cars are susceptible to the keyless theft that is being discussed (again) in the press ? We have a 2014 335d and I am concerned given a number of previous generation cars were stolen in my area using this method. Thanks !

It has been covered and it was believed at the time they were immune, however security is, I am afraid, a moving target - so I am not sure whether that is true any more. If you live in a high risk area I'd look at some extra securityEdited by MJP075 on Saturday 17th January 10:04

Going through some of the older posts and it looks like the new F series cars are indeed at risk. More so than, all modern cars are "susceptible" to this as was suggested elsewhere. Time to go and buy myself a steering wheel lock. Disappointing.
As you've found out,yes they are vulnerable. Get your OBD moved, disclock and consider a decent aftermarket alarm http://www.securemycar.co.uk/ or device such as a Clifford Blackjax.Edited by Billyray911 on Saturday 17th January 12:14

I don't think they are at risk, most of the posts claiming they are seem to be people confusing them with the older generation cars.pingu393 said:

When I was in the BMW dealership before xmas I mentioned off-hand about the key-less thefts and the 6 series (F13). The woman on the service desk told me it was old news and is now sorted. Perhaps she was just trying to appease me.
She was, it hasn't been resolved. But thieves have decided to go mostly Land Rover products atm.

Do you have anything solid to demonstrate this?
Work for a large insurer, part of my role is to deal with high value theft claims. These are still coming through, as said though Land Rover products are the new target.
It's just a game between manufacturers now and the thieves, how quick can a patch be put out and how quick can it be breached.
When you have guys like this putting out the equipment needed then risk will always remain high.

Just bought a 2006/56 E90 330i, manufactured July 2006. Do I need to get a software update (it appears BMW deny it's an issue pre-2007), disable the OBD, or spend £100 on a DiskLok?
If you live in a high risk area and the car is accssible from the road then I would suggest all three. Small price to pay for security IMO and these modifications do seem to reduce the risk. Best of luck to you over the years I have had a number of cars pinched. Not fun at all and therefore that is what I would do.Steffan said:

Thanks for the quick reply. Not a high crime area but I'll take some precautions.I've now tucked away the OBD port, following the instructions here: http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/f3/how-remove-... . It's easier to get the side trim panel back if you first remove the top trim panel completely out of the way (I pushed out the light fitting and pulled it back through the hole, as I couldn't get the cable out). When putting the top back, note that it slots together with the right side one at the back.
I'll get/make a sticker for the window.
The windows do go down when I hold the key in the unlock position, so I understand I need a software update for that and possibly another one for the OBD issue.
Also found a good list of security steps you can take here (may have already been posted but it's a long thread): http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=741...
I previously posted about my 2010 520d touring being stolen last summer, I have just had the insurance renewal come through from BMW insurance for the 118d that I replaced it with.... it has gone up from £302.00 to £893.00 subsequently. Thankyou BMW.
