and why didn't the alarm go off when he smashed the window?
Think was mentioned way back in the thread....From dimming memory on this issue, isn't it a RHD issue, as there are many things that are not changed in the change to RHD from LHD, and the alarm sensor 'field' is one of those.....so, it's design for LHD, and in a RHD car the scumbags have managed to identify a 'dead zone' in the alarm coverage on the drivers side in RHD.......or something like that
Looks like the 'board' he is holding up is being used as an 'aerial extender' - effectively bridging the gap between the keyless fob and the car. Been a few cases reported of this type of theft in recent months.
If you have keyless entry keep the fob well away from the car - other side of the house ideally. Including the spare fob!

That makes sense as the guy with the board is stood near the house with the board while his mate is by the car constantly trying the handle. If you have keyless entry keep the fob well away from the car - other side of the house ideally. Including the spare fob!
Presumably once the car is started the key no longer needs to be in range.

Correct, although you need it to restart if stopped. Makes you wonder how many they try to take on a given night being as it's going to be a hit and miss affair. Presumably once the car is started the key no longer needs to be in range.

Put the keys inside a microwave oven and pull the plug outIf you have keyless entry keep the fob well away from the car - other side of the house ideally. Including the spare fob!
At the frequency the fob transmits there should be enough Faraday effect.

Keyless comfort access is certainly a big problem....fortunately, I thought it an unneccessary option when I specced my 135i..... a wise decision in hindsight.

Without trawling through this huge thread, are the latest vehicles affected? I have a 16 plate 4 series and am just wondering what precautions to take. I don't have a lock up garage
Indeed as many have found, suggestions on on here can provde opportunity to improve additional specifics. Over time many of us read a lot of this thread. It would appear there is some risks still about. I hope the efforts increase your security.RichardM5 said:
It would appear that the method of theft shown in the latest video would only be applicable to cars with comfort access, so if you don't have that you should be OK. If you do have comfort access, keep the keys to the car as far away from the car as possible overnight.
I don't see how Comfort Access is related. Infact surely the car in the video does NOT have Comfort Access, because if so they wouldn't have needed to smash the window to gain entry. So, because the car has no comfort access the trick they are using cannot unlock the vehicle, but can start it once they have gained entry. Very worrying.silent ninja said:

Did he even smash the window , doesn't look like it to me. Presumably is a comfort access and they amplified or extended the signal so the car picks up the key.

That was my assumption too......A 1 Series owned by one of the managers at a place I worked at a couple of years ago, was taken from his driveway about 18 months ago, both keys in house, no smashed glass or anything..... but car did have comfort access option.

I'm surprised by these comments about CA. My car won't open if the key is more than a foot or so from the door you're trying to open.
Another thing I've noticed is if the key is in the same pocket as my iPhone the doors don't open.
Maybe that's it? Keep the keys with an iPhone?
I can look at my car through the front house window and watch the lights flash as I hit the key when its parked in the road, think ill keep them in the backroom.Another thing I've noticed is if the key is in the same pocket as my iPhone the doors don't open.
