TBH Tonka that's how I had based my opinion......not read about any F series thefts, missed the 7 series one.....
Good for me too selfishly, although just swapped from an F10 530d to F11 530d....

I have owned 6 E series cars in the past though, and a few in the family currently so trying to keep up to speed

My dealer has had two F series 7 series models nicked (or rather their customer has)

The article seemed to not want to suggest it was BMW's only (perhaps covering their own arses?)

I am not sure BMW are responsible for the security flaw, you could argue that the thieves would find a way somehow
Yes try are: it's a broken-headed design, not a flaw in the implementation.

Hope it's readable. Nicked it from e90post.

Thanks. Worked perfectly. Glad to see its getting into the public domain.

If/when BMW come up with a solution for this it's going to be a massive friggin job to get it sorted...BMW sell 100,000 cars a year in the UK and this problem impacts roughly the last five years production so 500,000 cars. BMW has circa 150 dealers so that's over 3,000 cars.....if the solution is a software update which normally seems to be an overnight job I think most dealers can deal with two or three cars each day.

They certainly won't say anything official....it would just be utter chaos.....maybe they'll try and update cars when they're in for a service ?!?!

OK, chaps,

A little update regarding the current state of affairs, I live in central London and have just had a Community Support Police Officer come around the street checking all the BMW's with forensic gloves checking doors. He clearly said that there are elevated number of these vehicles been stolen.

I called BMW and they say that this subject is under internal investigation and that they do not have a time frame for the results. So we have change of heart from saying that there is no issue to now having an internal investigation. What they say is refer to the dealer if concerns but then the dealer refers to HQ. That farce is still going on. It was only until I told them that I had the PCSO had been around that they said the issue is under internal investigation.

I am aware that there are schools of thought that say that BMW is responsible and not but the case is that something more concrete should be coming from them about this issue.

Good to hear the Police are at least attempting some action.

It suggest to me that the repeated instances of keyless entry recorded in good faith on PH, and elsewhere, has caused the police to look to see how that could be done and therefore look to see if there is evidence of tampering on cars as yet not stolen.

I do think constant daily exposure, in the media, is the way to get action from BMW. The "we are thinking about it" bland obfuscation must be driving the owners mad. #

I really am sorry for the owners: having lost many cars to thieves years ago, I never wish to experience that gutted feeling and feeling of violation again.

Good luck to them all.

I have now sold my car and I'm very glad to see the back of it. Have 'downgraded' to an E39 (which I'm loving so far) and put my cash back in the bank. It will be a very long time before I buy any post 2005 BMW again.

Maybe someone should buy a decoder and some keys then make all the Olympic cars 'disappear'

That would be an interesting BMW Press release!

Would be interesting to see if any fall victim although their bright markings might make it hard to hide them.

Hi all...
I've got a BMW X5. On the Jubilee weekend, I parked my car and went into the house but i was in quite a hurry. Im not 100% sure if locked the car.
At about 1:30am my nephew who had been at his friends house (yeah yeah) calls my mobile to tell me theres someone in the X5. I bolted out of bed and ran out. Within those few minutes, the c**k had realised he's been caught and got out the car and walked round the coarner and legged it. My nephew saw him sitting in the passengers seat.

Now for the life of, i cant say with 100% certaintity i locked the car. I reckon he was an opportunist and trying find anything of value, he had opened the glove box but i never leave anything in the car so nothing for him to take (There was a pack of murray mints which he did not touch)

Im thinking if he was trying to nick the car, he would have done what he had to to drive off but im not sure if he got rumbled or as i said, taking a chance as the car was maybe open.

I called BMW main dealers and he said if someone wants to nick a car they will..they are usually stolen to order.
The computer a thief needs to connect to on an X5 is near the lever to open the bonnet and not on the passenger side i read in one of the posts earlier.

Im going to buy a disclock to as as a deterrent.

Question is, if i did lock the car, how did he get in, and has he got the details he needs for a second hit...it's been nearly a 3 weeks now and everuthing is ok...

Im onto a builder to sort my garage out so i can sleep more easy at night...

I think we saw the same one. Did it even have the twitter address showing on the side? The one I saw was in Notting Hill. I know I saw one in the BMW garage (workshop) in Battersea as well.

Come on Guys, isn't it time some of you took responsibility for YOUR own cars like in the old days?

It's not rocket science to fit a hidden kill switch or similar until things are resolved.

Up until recently the BMW security has always been looked upon as virtually unbeatable. Now the scum have found a way in like they will with any security system. It's like a game of catch up.

BMW will get this sorted, but in the meantime don't you think the owners should do their bit? If you get burgled at home, do you blame the house builder? No. The first thing you do after the break in is to improve the locks and fit an alarm.

Surely prevention is better than cure.

Mr Bimmer, I think we all now by now you probably work for BMW, and you don't have talk some rubbish. If I went to spend £50k on a car and was told by the dealer that they were easy to steal and their security system had been cracked and i still went ahead and bought it, then yes i suppose it would be my fault for not listening. however in my case and eveyone esle on this forum who had their car stolen, one of the main reasons we paid the money for a BMW was for their security, and all the dealers saying "just keep you keys safe and you car will be safe" when they knew for a facy this was a lie. So back in your BMW box please Mr Bimmer.

Like fk it has. The locking wheel nuts they used to fit which you could get off with a large screwdriver were just ludiccrous.

I could go on but you've consistently talked utter garbage on this thread so I won't waste my energy.

So do what I've done: get your BMW dealer to fit kill switches and to give an explicit promise that they will stand by their work if any snags arise.
