Manual or automatic?

The X3 is (despite it relative lack of enthusiasm from BMW fans) well-made and have few flaws. One problem is the transfer case, if the front and rear tyres have a significant difference in wear (BMW insist on only using "*" designated tyres) or rolling diameter. If the one you are getting has staggered tyres (255/40/18 on the rear, 235/50/18 front) then check that all tyres have a similar thread depth left.

Other than that - since yours is a petrol - nothing to add. Maybe pop over on the designated forums on xdrivers.co.uk or bmwland where some X3 stuff can be found.

unfortunately manual, i love autos but since this one was very local and in every other sense excellent then i had to say yes,im coming out of a grand cherokee and thats great but wanted a car that the queen can drive too, so this ticked all boxes except auto. shall prob live to regret it though !!

I don't know what year your X3 is, but assume it is a pre-facelift?

Coming out of a Grand Cherokee it must be quite a shock to the system in terms of ride - the pre-facelift X3 is known for having a very stiff setup, whereas the GC is not...!

yes mate, its a shock alright. ive just sold my porsche as well which was hard but you know that when you buy one. my jeep was really only used by me and that was the reason for change......somethin that the queen can drive too. im gona reallly miss the jeep i know, it was my 4th one and have had one now for last ten years. would have had another but the overland is still bit pricey at present. i was finding it hard to get comfy in the x3 but think ive managed it now. it is a big adjustment and i get too attached to cars but it was time to change so jeep will be goin up for sale now.
do any of you know how long the corrosion guarantee is on bmw as my roof bars are corroding and was thinking of calling them to find out.

6 years I think, but give it a try but don't get your hopes up unless you have a great local dealer.

i called sytner bmw solihull where car was bought from and has been maintained there ever since and the guy told me to take it in after explaining the problem to him so i made a special trip up the m42 only to be told that .....yes the waranty on the body is 12 yrs but the roof bars are not part of the body so only have a 3 year warranty on them, talk about a cop out.
the roof bars on my g cherokee are 12 yrs old and not a mark on them, the bmw are corroded in at least 8 different places so its obviously a design fault that they should acknowledge i think.
so if i want to get rid of the unsightly vision that spoils the look of the car i will have to pay for new ones or hahe them removed and repainted, not so impressed with bmw now so will maybe think about a specialist to look after it rather than original dealers.

I have similarly unimpressive view of this dealer network and their 'customer service' though when I complained to their Head of Customer Services in Leicester things changed a bit for the better. If anyone wants to know more details of my experience, feel free to PM me.

There's a guy called Noel Butler from Autokraft in Earlswood.
He'd be what I would consider the best Independent in the area.
