I'm currently toying with upgrading my recently acquired E39 530i for an E60 545i or 550i - maybe this model could be an option for you? V8 and lots of power/torque, but not quite the handling or running costs of an M?
Ignore Fox and try them yourself. The 530i is underpowered, IMO.
the later E60 is a good car, once the run flats have been ditched. i wouldn't say the 530i is underpowered, not at all. it'll beat most traffic.

Don't worry I will try for myself in due course. It seems I could get similar economy from a 550- to my 530 Auto smile I'll keep the E39 for now though, i've only had it a few months and I've just spent money of the cooling system etc.

i've been in a few E60 520Ds and to be honest they feel like a step backwards. The 4 pot rattler didn't help (sorry, but it still felt like a bag of nails - 6 cylinder diesels seem the way to go for a nice drive if one must). I'm hoping a fully loaded V8 model might sway me.

Depends what you're used to; if you're considering a 545i instead of a 530i then it'll make the 530i seem quite lacking.

I'm not looking for a sports car guys.

Anyway, we're stealing someone else's thread here :-)

Aye, sorry to the OP smile

But the 545i isn't a sports car; it's quite relaxed to drive because of the extra torque and that's where it really scores over the smaller engines.
