E61 iDrive Sat Nav problem

I have a 2008 E61 530i Touring with Pro Nav. Of late, have been getting the dreaded blank map screen, 'DVD read error! Please check DVD.' or 'DVD not present. Please insert DVD'.

I've taken it to our dealership several times and they say that their hands are tied as the car is not logging a fault code that can then be used to register with BMW and carry out warranty work.

Am at a loss as to what I can do. Can anyone confirm whether this type of fault should be logging error codes? I would prefer not to do a DIY job of buying new nav disc, cleaning DVD drive, replacing laser, replacing DVD unit without having exhausting all options with BMW. After all that is what I paid the warranty for...

Strikes me as a lame excuse - the "fault code" is on the screen of the nav unit. I had a similar problem after which they tried to sell me a new nav DVD for £££ which I declined and then they replaced the drive and all was fine. Just be politely insistent - there's a fault and you have a warranty so they fix the fault. Simples.
