I admit its a lot of car for the money, but would you really want to put 12k + into a car with 95,000 miles? Would be interested to hear people's thoughts.

thats nothing - one on ebay is being sold at 6k with 200k on it....i have to say im very good at buying cars (blowing trumpet) and if "you aint doing miles buy miles". It will all come out in the wash. The 550i etc have a low demand for them so are hard to price and sell on as everyone (well the market) wants either 520d's or loaded 535ds in this model. This is all IMO, also 550i buyers arent usually M5 people and want to cruise around and are usually bought by people with a bit more less right pedal action...lol....

I have a 535d bought at £9k with 88k on the clock, and an M3 CS manual with 72k on the clock bought at £12k...... both pretty good, and most of the value has been lost....keeping the costs of ownership down....

Very odd for an approved used car to have the wrong alloys, possibly non-standard calipers etc.

Is there any difference between the SE and Sport interior - the seats look the same on both specs?

That 545 tourer does look nice, in a great colour and its a manual which I would have preferred - but I picked my 550i tourer auto (se) up today and I must say, WOW. No wonder it didn't feel that quick when I test drove it - it sets off in 3rd gear! A quick tug to the left with the shifter soon saw me scaring the bejeesus out of myself. Very happy. And it seems to do 30mpg effortlessly on the motorway as well which was better than expected. There was one unfortunate niggle - self-level system failure light came on, then went off and as I got home it came on but as a fault not a failure. I will need to get that seen to asap. I did buy from a garage but their warranty covers engine and box only and dare I say it, the car feels roadworthy enough (no probs at the back) and so maybe I just have to suck that up? Aside from that, all is well and I really, really love the car... I was worried my remapped 330d that I p-exed might feel quicker. Concerns were quickly allayed.

I was after that 545i Touring but they said it had sold on the first day to a walk in customer wanting finance.

Might have to ring back on Mon to see if that is the case.

The car has to be fit for purpose though - and by law they have to cover all parts (non wear and tear) for 3-months. I'd certainly give them a call - and don't let them tell you otherwise...

They're not the same offset, though that doesn't mean they don't work. The ellipsoids on that car are ET14 (front, 8.5" wide) and ET18 (rear, 9" wide). The 19"s for the E61 aren't even staggered, even on the late Business Editions with style 172s as standard.

Cheers Jobbo, that'll teach me to make half arsed assumptions frown

Ok, it's an M Sport and a 550i, but why the huge premium on that compared to something like this - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2013...

The eBay 550i is well overpriced imo. 9/10k with those miles? That said, and depends on your point of view of course, but I much prefer it to the 545i which has a very tired looking interior. The spec looks very good.

Glad you're enjoying it. I also had the concern that my 535d would feel faster, but no such issues. The way in which the thing muscles its way along is completely different and with so much more drama than any turbo-derv that I've driven.

Someone warned me of the following and I didn't believe it at the time, but I shall share the same wisdom.....

MPG might look great now, but once you get used to driving it and enjoying it, it will fall dramatically. I was convinced 25mpg average would be do-able at all times. But I'm now around about 20mpg and less on a spirited run. But I accept that that is the price to pay for a motor with such a broad spread of ability. From 70mph motorway cruising in near silence, to full-on Sunday-blasts with SAT in manual mode and flappy paddles getting an exercise and everything in between. It's all the car I could want and will have for a long time to come, methinks.

Enjoy! biggrin

That does sound good - no such fun for me though, my car was registered on 6th September 2005. In fact, I think it may have been the first 550i Touring to have nmade it over here! I will content myself with the steptronic feature!

They appeal greatly to my Q car side but every one up for sale has more wood than a local pine store. I will not own a car with wood in it.

I do need to scratch a V8 itch though before they are banned.

IIRC, wood trim was standard on the 545i and 550i even in Sport/MSport trim, as a differentiator from the smaller engined models. The wood in mine is the grey/black stripey stuff which is rather nice. Going to miss it (the wood, not just the car) when my F30 diesel arrives.

I don't remember seeing any grey/black trees?

Does sound better though but I still can't abide it even though our car is otherwise mostly "senior" spec (SE, terra leather, smallish wheels).
