E36 cheap track day toy
Discussion
I like it. It's never going to be the best at I have owned. But it defiantly won't be the worst. I have just invested in some braided brake hoses as the old ones are perished and this is going to get a lot more use than the originally planned stag do trip. Ordered a very cheap gaiter and gear knob as well, as the old one is ripped.
Finally got some money back for the Audi today. Mostly got to pay debts off with it. But I have treated the Estate to an induction kit. Considering what the old filter is like, it needs it.
The brake hoses are not in great condition either and it was only 20 quid more for a braided set rather than buying six individual hoses.
Finally a very cheap gear gaiter and knob, but the old ones are ripped and marked so.
That will have to be it for the spending for now though. I have put my name down for the santa pod sunday service. Hopefully I will be attending in the coupe, with several friends.

Finally. She is back!
For the first time I parked the cars next to one another. Amazingly they are almost exactly the same length. I would have sworn the estate was a good foot or so longer but it isn't. Sort of explains why the exhaust didn't exactly fit but was the right length.
Going for one last big push on the estate tomorrow. New brake hoses, discs and rear wheel balance should finally make it a nice road car. I have treated myself to one expensive item which is engine related. A gen 2 k&n induction kit.
Having driven the cars back to back I can't wait to get the 28 engine in the coupe and pushing through that bigger diff.

Thanks, it is good to see the old girl again.
So day done on the estate. Nothing much to report. The rear brake hoses were the wrong ones, so that stopped that.
Stripped the passenger door and fitted a couple of new runner clips.
Usefull for any e36 to know that these are the weak point of this system and can be bought for three pounds!
Swapped out the old bendy gear knob and spent some time with a razor blade trimming the new leather to fit like the original. But I won't bother you with pictures of that. This isn't max power after all.
Balanced the rear wheels and gave her an oil change. Fitted a new magnetic sump plug like in all my cars. Not surprisingly the oil filter that came with the car in the "complete service kit" which also includes five spark plugs. Is the wrong one. The old filter doesn't look to dirty but I will use this as a flushing exercise with the magnet now in and change the oil again in a few weeks with a correct filter.
Finally the only part with real thread significance.
Looking much tidier! Not to bad to fit and long term can go straight into the coupe.
The eagle eyed reader will notice I have found a 328 rad cover with the ducting to keep the alternator cool.
Finished her off with the first wash she has had for years I think. You can see from the mold line on the window how dirty it was, as well as how low the window had been sitting before I replaced the clips today.
Only really the brakes still to do. Then it's coupe time. Well after I do a power steering pump on the Mrs car.
I'm having the rest of the weekend off though. Happy Easter everyone.

In 1998 the E36 went from two short rear flexies with the metal S pipe to a single long hose - same as the E46. The later long hose is a direct swap.So day done on the estate. Nothing much to report. The rear brake hoses were the wrong ones, so that stopped that.

Didn't know that, does that mean the Goodridge set I have for my Evo might actually be for cars without the metal S pipe? Do you not need to tie the longer cable to anything?Been talking to Enda from endtuning.com again. I was really pleased with his remap on the m44 engine. Now thinking about how shoddy the rest of the previous owners work was, maybe I shouldn't trust the quality of his remap on the estate either. I have no idea where he got it done. After the nightmare a friend of mine has had recently when he had his focus RS remapped. Which then suffered serious detonation. Also Enda can make me a map with the future 3.0L rebuild in mind. As I have the coupe out seems like the ideal time if I'm going to post the ecu away. Coupe can do some comuting, before its trip to Santapod next Sunday.
