Love this thread!

It makes me realise I have nothing to fear as the miles go on my current pair, which is a good thing as I can't imagine what I would replace either of them with - even BMW don't do N/A straight 6 manual petrol any more!

In January 2008 I bought a pre-reg 123d with less than 20 miles on it (to replace a 320td Compact) and sold it in July 2014 with 81K miles. Only replaced tyres, one battery and one starter motor which I blame on the stop/start nonsense - it was still on original wiper blades and brakes (pads and discs).

But I had seen the light having got a Z4 Coupe in June 2014 (and I wasn't doing business miles any more). Was so impressed with straight 6 petrol propulsion that in December 2014 I got a 325ti Compact as a daily - why didn't I try one before I bought the 320td in 2005? banghead

So anyway my current pair are youngsters really - 52 plate 325ti is on 92K and current 56 plate Z4C is at 78K and both in rude health (fingers crossed)! Looking forward to years more entertainment from both of them! driving

E39 528i. Bought this cheap through a customer at work as a stop gap. It's green, it's an estate and its battered and bruised. I'm 28 so it gets called the grandad mobile or '' the hearse". I cannot bring myself to sell it.

Spent a while looking for a solid e36 318is to tidy up and to save on fuel as I'm trying to buy my first place. Picked one up last month, 82k and last owner for 11 years in reasonably good nick. It's been sat on the drive since and now is back up for sale! I don't know what it is about the e39 but I love it. I've had a few different 3 series' over the years but this is my first 5.

It's fully loaded and previously owned by a doctor and his son so fairly well cared for with 115k on the clock. Boot is rusty, both rear arches have been scraped plus multiple little dents elsewhere. Costs me too much in fuel sat in traffic all the way to work but there isn't anywhere else I'd rather be for what I paid (£500). The cream leather interior is in great condition and the ridiculously adjustable seats are the most comfortable I've ever had.

Recently replaced both rear air springs so list of things to do are:

Rear subframe bushes
Rear brake lines corroded
Drivers auto dimming mirror needs replacing
Thermostat and drive belts
N/s headlight

Think that's about it at the moment. I should really keep the e36 and sell it but I just can't. Loving this thread and the attachment people seem to have to their old beemers!

The car I said I was going to sell when it hit 200k has hit 200k, and I've got no real plans to sell it! Mainly because I have my eyes on an F11 530D, and they're still a bit pricey. Tempted to LCI it but not sure I'll bother considering the cost! It's still on the original turbo as far as I know, so might look in to a refurb/replacement and then get it mapped by Evolve as I work with them, should add about 40hp/70ft/lb which would liven it up for the 3rd year of ownership.
