What's the story behind the car in terms of where/how you found it and why it'd been left to stand for so long?
Was wondering this myself ?, it would been a very valuable car in 2002, too valuable for most mortals to leave to park up an leave sitting outside for years.

Also fully agree on the tyres, meant to say O/P i'd keep the original wheels on it, as much as i like M-Parallels (the style you meant) i think it should stay on the original split rims.

Good luck with the refurb. I've just sold my 'eco' 840 Sport and miss it like mad.

Stunning cars and surely will start appreciating soon. When and if you get the wheels refurbed , don't accept painted rims! Or try and source a set that have been restored already and use those that you have for winter. I preferred the look of the Alpina 18 as I felt it filled the arches slightly better. Heres a pic of the old girl!

Not usually a fan of alpina wheels but that looks great. how much would you be looking at for a reasonable 840?

I sold mine for just less than £6k in October 13. Had approx 112k miles on the clock...Expect anywhere between £7k upwards for anything with less than 100k miles....

Exciting stuff, I'm on the edge of my friggin seat here laugh

One tip in case you dont know, use a block of wood on the cup of the trolley jack, those metal cups can easily damage sills and chassis rails if used bare, especially on a two ton car.

Expect some attention once it's all done.

and if you do pull the intakes, then give it a good clean during reassembly

Super thread! thumbup

Best of luck with this, watching with interest.

Am I right in thinking the 850CSi had a 4 wheel steer system?

Yes. Active hydraulic rear wheel steering, or AHK as BMW call it. Very effective and very unobtrusive. It gives the car a much more agile feel - almost like it's shed a few hundred pounds.

Yes, but only on the Euro spec cars. We also got floating calipers, MTech mirrors and a diff oil cooler as standard too whereas the US cars didn't.

Anybody else been looking at the 5-6k 840s in the classifieds? What could possibly go wrong?

Nothing if you buy properly, the falacy that a cheap 8er is going yo be problematic needs to stop.

Paid £4k for mine, never skipped a beat.
