Hey Folks,
I had the "M Performance Pack" installed by my local dealer a month or so ago. My Touring already had the bigger brakes as part of the option kit so it was just a case of the i/c and the new ECU.
It's definitely quicker than the E91 335d I had and well worth the upgrade given that it doesn't affect the warranty. Alpina aside, this is the best diesel 3-series RWD action you'll get. Very happy with it. I'll get it dyno'd and post the figures sometime,
The F30 forums have already done this and state its just over 300bhp - so actual bhp/tonne v the 335d is similar but as its a smaller turbo in the 330d the top end loses out v the 335d. Plus no doubt there will be an official BMW remap of the 335d so that would be warrantied 365bhp fun!

Agreed. I'd add that the ZF box makes up the difference, and more. I literally drove them both back to back in standard form before I bought the car and despite less power, the std F31 330d I felt was equally, if not slightly faster from 30-70 than the 335d is. Purely based on the faster shifts and closer ratio's

Sorry I'm talking F30 330d v F30 335d same 8 speed box but the Xdrive adds weight so the official mapped F30 330d gets very very close to the std f30 335d.

V the e90 335d the standard F30 330d is quicker out of the box due to the automatic 8 speed v 6 speed.
One can only wonder what the f30 LCI will bring or whatever the next generation model will bring to the party.

hi - I'm new

I'm looking at buying a F31 330d m sport touring by the end of the month

do I need x-drive? I thought it would generally improve the ride but I'm not sure now

from what I've been reading it would definitely be a bonus in wintery conditions - but ultimately makes the car heavier and less responsive?

I have gone with the m sport package ( brakes, 19s etc) and also the adaptive suspension

now i'm thinking of ditching the x-drive for the performance pack

thoughts?

Cons
It uses more fuel than rwd
It rides higher
Regardless of fitting adaptive suspension its not as good as M sport
It weighs more
If its that bad snow wise why not work from home as other car users may crash into you.

Its one of the reasons I went for a used 535df10 m sport over a new F31 335d

Yes they do something that gives you more power.

...thiinking this through a bit Ac schniter via Rossiters.....their suspension is fitted by a few authorised BMW dealers and is a BMW GB approved kit.

....I also believe their AC Schnitzer piggyback is fitted by again said BMW dealers .......and a little teaser Rossiters head honcho is on a BMW forum and has stated a "well known uk Tuner" has never backed up their warranty....make of that what you will.

Well if you insert "had to" into that sentence then that's a good thing if he is referring to the kit he fits, then again he wouldn't fit it if it wasn't up to scratch I guess.

Lorcan on F30 post I presume.

Fitting the suspension and tune from ACS would go against the reasons I went from an m3 to a 335d, spending the thick end of 5k trying to replicate the handling/performance of the M3 means I might as well have bought a new M3 instead or at least kept the old one.

Although the official list of ACS fitters is shortish (bold are BMW dealers)

http://shop.ac-schnitzer.co.uk/where-to-order-4-w....

In practice a much greater number will fit ACS stuff.

The key attraction, beyond the parts being very good, is the warranty which dovetails exactly with the official BMW one, so anything not covered by one, is covered by the other. That was a pretty key decider for me in choosing ACS springs, and would be if I went for their power kit.

It really is quite a transformation - better than the standard M Sport sDrive suspension, but well worth living with your factory set-up for a while to see if you are happy with it. The fitted cost of the springs is £650 at quite a few BMW dealers, and some insurers will load the premium a little. Mine added £10 ish, although some are free apparently.

Just been researching 335d X drive touring and found this thread.

Going for a test drive on Thursday but have put a holding deposit on a new 335d Touring and pretty convinced on paper. Almost bought a C63 type 507 last weekend and probably would have bought it today if brooklands merc hadn't sold it yesterday to settle a warranty issue with another customer.

C63 was a bit of a "mad" decision - 335d makes the man maths easier - 4 wheel drive appeals as we drive to the alps a few times a year - test driving on Thursday a 335d Xdrive saloon but want the estate.

9k off a 50k list price car in the showrrom today without pushing.

The car has the Msport pack brakes and adaptive suspension.

Any suggestions/comments on the car would be appreciated.

I've had mine for a couple of months, it's nice but no more than that. Your deal sounds about right too, similar to mine.

Out of interest what kind of deal where you looking at/offered on the 507?

Given that the springs represent £650 of that, and are by far the most important bit to improving the feel of the car, I would leave the power kit on the shelf.
