Chillax - I suggest you take an extended test drive if possible and concentrate on the suspension, to see what you think of the handling. Personally, I think it is a fantastic car, with a remarkable engine, the only downside being the fact that BMW have chosen to fit SE springs to all xDrive cars. Adaptive goes some way to deal with this, but the handling remains less good than an M Sport sDrive F30. Quite a few (from the F30 Post forum) have fitted AC Schnitzer springs to our 335d cars to rectify this. Annoying to have to do this, but it does solve the 'problem'.

I assume that your car has xenon lights, if the M Sport brakes came as part of the M Sport Plus package? Make sure it does, as BMW seem to have perfected halogens which are worse than most 15 year old cars!

Real world economy seems to be in the range 36-41 mpg for most.

Let us know what you think, having driven it.

Fitting the suspension and tune from ACS would go against the reasons I went from an m3 to a 335d, spending the thick end of 5k trying to replicate the handling/performance of the M3 means I might as well have bought a new M3 instead or at least kept the old one.
Given that the springs represent £650 of that, and are by far the most important bit to improving the feel of the car, I would leave the power kit on the shelf.

I was referring to the full suspension they do not just the springs it's £2100.

True that the full suspension is something like that price. However the transformation with just the springs (for £650) is enough for me. I also don't want to be significantly lower, which I believe the ACS RS kit is. Just the springs won't turn a 335d into an M3, but it does significantly improve the steering and handling.

This is a question for cheggers:

is there some reference code for your F30 'm sport performance package'?

my dealer said he's only seen it on the 2.0l models...

And my dealer told me they don't do PPK for x35d's.

Why don't they offer it for the x35d? Seems a no brainer to me - though its plenty fast enough its just nice to know you can have more if you choose

I would join you in the queue! It is a truly fantastic engine, but an extra 40hp and perhaps 60Nm (to stay within the limit of the ZF8) would be fantastic. It may be a marketing decision as the 335d is not far behind the manual M3/M4 at the moment in 0-62. I guess they would prefer to keep the range separated by performance.

If it was an approved BMW modification I may well do it - but Super chips or any other non OEM if it goes wrong and you are keeping the car long term it would be a pain and ££

Still Alpina do the D3 with what 365bhp with near on no difference in performance on the public roads it makes a lovely choice to have for those who cannot have an M car

Well if you insert "had to" into that sentence then that's a good thing if he is referring to the kit he fits, then again he wouldn't fit it if it wasn't up to scratch I guess.

Lorcan on F30 post I presume.

Fitting the suspension and tune from ACS would go against the reasons I went from an m3 to a 335d, spending the thick end of 5k trying to replicate the handling/performance of the M3 means I might as well have bought a new M3 instead or at least kept the old one.

Didn't DMS used to get 350bhp out of the old 272/286bhp x35d power unit - maybe there is more to be extracted?

Maybe but Alpina have to warranty their cars and meet emission targets and often we forget the where and how as regards power delivery and just focus on the peak number, which is probably a mistake.

sorry to resurrect an oldie.

Does anyone know if the current 330d/335d and alpina d3 share the same dual mass flywheel and auto box?.Ive been tempted to stick a tdi tuning box on my 330d as per one of the previous posters (not interested in worrying about warranty with a remap).Id feel a lot safer doing it if i knew they all had the same drive train and i could up the torque safely.

I had a tuning box on a year old a4 previously and the dmf gave way after only 20k miles. It must have been a weak point anyway, but the box i guess brought it to light sooner rather than later.

They dont have a dual mass flywheel because they don't have a manual transmission.

Also check out the RaceChip Ultimate which is excellent and is a piggy back similar to ACS, Hartge and Kelleners but without warranty.

There are some dyno's on Bimmerpost for the diesel engines.

Yes confirming what was on my receipt:
"BMW M Performance power kit for BMW F30/F31 330d"
It was a replacement ECU + a new intercooler. I understand the I/c is basically the same. Dimensions are no different.

You can see more here:
http://www.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/topics/owners/bmw-accessories/m-performance-accessories/3-series-saloon.html#drive
Only 320d kit is listed but the dealer will be able to find out about the 330 kit.

I've been driving the car in this guise for 6 months+ now and I can say it feels 15% faster than the E91 335d everywhere, particularly exiting roundabouts smile
