Doesn't look good,2 1/2 hrs overdue, looks like it's down. CNN have a VP of Malaysian on, sounds like they have no info but are "searching". It's flying overland so it's all a bit strange. Malaysian has a good safety record IIRC, as does the 777.

I'm just watching the local news in Singapore. Apparently they lost contact over Vietnam. It did not enter Chinese airspace.

Have flown with them too and found them excellent, much nicer plane than 2 recent BA long haul flights I took.

As mentioned, they're regarded as a much nicer airline to fly with than anything the UK has to offer. And a good safety record to boot.

Sadly, the prognosis doesn't look good for MH 370. Details a sketchy, but apparently Vietnamese Naval radar tracked them going down in to the sea..

No distress calls or emergency signals suggests something quite catastrophic whilst airborne.

Based upon at least two occasions where I've been roasted in one of their planes sat on the tarmac and a 14 hour delay in KL due to an engine fault that according to a fellow passenger had not been resolved from his outbound flight a week earlier.

BTW: www.jacdec.de safety rankings 2013 puts Malaysian at 34th out of 60 so I wouldn't class that as "one of the safest airlines", would you?

Vietnam media quote Navy Admiral Ngo Van Phat saying military radar recorded #MH370 crashing into sea 153 miles south of Phu Quoc island.

The aircraft is just 12 years old and the weather was good for the whole flight plan.

ETA - the above quote is as yet unconfirmed by the airline.

Doubtful. But there is one thing I can state categorically. Most pilots of my acquaintance are opinionated armholes of which I guess you are of the category. Every flight I have ever taken with Malaysian has been crap, tired planes, delays due to tech faults etc. Given a choice I would never fly with them again...EVER.

So because you've been sat on the Tarmac for a few hours and some bloke gave you a bit of gossipy news you're not surprised one of their planes crashed killing 200+ people? Really?

Also, Jacdec rate Ryanair about the same safety wise and they're not exactly dropping out the sky.

Interestingly Qantas rate near top yet they've had numerous issues in last few years - turbulence causing multiple injuries, 380 engines blowing up, planes running into each other and buildings etc.

Personally I've flown Malaysian a lot without issue to the UK from Oz and they're fine IMHO.

I was on a Malaysian Air aircraft that tried to land with its gear up at KL. Obviously the tower shouted at him 'cos he did a quick panic go-around from only a couple of hundred feet.

Gossipy? Get real will you? When they can't start the fecking engines properly as you're pushed back then there is a certain lack of attention to detail going on!

It was dark.

There are tens of thousands of fishing vessels in that area, operating specifically at night. I believe many of them are not equipped with radios however, so it may take a while for any witnesses to contact authorities.
