As title, has anyone fitted an S54 in the E39?

Doubt it, what would be the point? Completely the wrong character of engine for a big saloon.

Just interested, a lot of engine swaps have no point, it doesn't stop people doing them.

Hi,

Yes, this conversion has been done in the past - there's one thread I remember vaguely. Over in the USA.

If I'm mistaken and it was just a 'discussion' type thread only, I apologise.

Cheers, Dennis!

Thank Dennis, I thought someone would of somewhere, I would imagine it would be quite a car, V8 performance with rack and pinion steering, it would be a bonus to me to hear that 6 pot noise as well.

If you wanted V8 Performance but with the better steering surely an N54 transplant would suit the car far better?

You could be right, like I said I read something good that got me thinking about it, I wouldn't own an E39 of any description, they just aren't for me, it's just a hypothetical question.

The high revving nature probably doesn't suit the E39 as such, but the V10 shouldn't have suited the E60 but it was fantastic.

The S54 would basically be no worse, ever, than an M54 but it'd have more oomph and fun-factor than a 530i....

Alpina have pretty much done this before with the B10 straight 6 engine.

A manual S63 4.4l V8 twin-turbo engine from the new F10 M5 would be an nice addition to the e39 m5, even if Dinan had been doing it years before, I'd say the box and rear diff couldn't be that difficult to shoe-horn in there, much lighter car and would make a serious Nurburgring machine with the right tyres.
