Looking for any advice on what may be causing this, the car runs perfectly when cold but develops a misfire and has a very noticeable lack of power once warmed through. It can also be difficult to start once warm. Anyone had the same fault?

Could be a coil pack, do you know if the cam cover gasket has ever been changed ?, it goes hard with age, causes oil to leak down the plug holes, over time this rots the ends of the coil packs causing a missfire.

Could be so many things. Best to run a diagnostic on it first to maybe give some pointers rather than wildly changing things.

In an old fashioned car, I'd start with plug leads, coil and distributor - heat does bad things to old, cracked electronics bits and spark ends up heading for a local ground instead of the plug electrode...

Thanks for the replies guys, I've got a 328i with the same engine so I'll swap over the coil packs to see if that cures it, if not I'll have the codes read.
