I have just joined the BMW club, 6 month old 520d touring,I have a query regarding parking sensors.
At home when I park up I do a 3 point turn, my first action is to put the nose up into a corner (without coming to a halt) the front sensors do not warm me to stop, when I reverse the sensors operate as I would expect, the next forward movement also results in the expected warning.
So to sum up, after several experimental manouveres it seems that the forward sensors do not work until after a reverse movement has taken place, surely this can't be correct, none of my previous cars have had this set up. Suggestions please.

The sensors on my 530 don't work automatically until the car is put in reverse, when they work both ends until a certain forward speed is reached, or the car is put into park. If driving forward towards an obstacle I press the button to bring them on.

Doesn't sound like anything wrong with yours.

The sensors are operating correctly. If you want them to work moving forward when making the first part of the manoeuvre, then you need to activate them manually. They will work automatically once reverse has been selected, then switch off when you reach a certain forward speed.
All covered in the handbook. smile

Thanks for the responses, I must admit to playing with my new toy rather than reading the manual carefully, very pleased with it so far, thanks again.

One feature that is easy to miss is the tilting left door mirror glass which only works when the mirror adjuster is switched to the right hand side, plus reverse engaged obviously.

Yes, that is quite easy to miss if you don't read the manual thoroughly, and who does! I was about to go back and complain about the mirror always tilting when I noticed that it wasn't doing it any more. That's when it dawned on me that I had moved the LH/RH switch!

On another subject, is it possible to have the connected drive e mail operating without putting your password in every time you get in the car, i.e get it to connect automatically?

Can't answer that as I am told that my HTC Radar is not compatible although address book, text and everything else works.

Yes, the phone compatibility does leave something to be desired, but what I mean is the direct link to e mail through the car's SIM, not the mobile. It works fine as long as I log in each time, inputting my password. It's just a pain with a long password and slow input method.

My iPhone 4 connects OK and displays the phone book etc but some features it should or could have aren't there because of a current dispute between BMW and Apple, apparently.
