I currently have an X5 and 5 Series and have been shocked at the lead times being quoted by BMW dealers for requesting any sort of work on my cars - service, warranty work etc. It seems they can't look at cars for at least 5-6 days and if a courtesy car or pick up and drop off is required it can take up to 3 weeks to get a slot!

I'm comparing this to around 10 years back when one could book their car in within a day or two. BMW dealers are obviously struggling here with the increased amount of models being offered across the board and with things like the 2 series, loads of 3 series models and the Irange set to join things are not looking to good unless BMW invest in service centres to cope with the load!

I recently needed a new Air conditioning condenser in the 5 due to stone chip damage and had to wait 3 weeks to get an appointment with a courtesy car eek

Seems like one needs to take a day off work to get their BMWs sorted if they need a quick fix as there currently seems no way around this!

Or maybe they aren't as reliable as they once where?!

No certainly no longer exclusive but still great drivers cars.

They need to sort their service network out soon though...

I've had new cars of various makes for 30yrs and I'd say 3 weeks is pretty standard for a courtesy car.

I wanted a "waiting" appointment for our Golf 1st service as it only takes an hour and they were looking at dates 4 weeks away.

Must admit the lead times quoted by the OP don't really sound that excessive from experience.

Hmm maybe I just expect too much then ;-)

I did mention this to My local sytner and they agreed that the amount of new models coming out do not help waiting times.

How many different dealers did you try? Could just be an issue at one

Conversely, a little check on maindealerdiscount reveals a lot of spare workshop capacity at decent discounts and short notice but it may mean it's a few miles away.

That has nothing to do with it, it's more likely the fact that sales volumes have shot up.

If they have 100k cars over 10 models with similar running gear vs 100k cars over 2 models, they've still got 100k cars to look over....

Does the condition based servicing on the newer cars mean cars are making more trips to the dealer, but for less work each time?
