I have a query over the operation of the CCU on my car (which has been examined by a BMW dealer and pronounced correct).

Having previously run a recent 120d SE and a 520d SE I find the system behaves differently from either of the others.

In manual mode I can control temperature, direction (but no screen option on the left hand side) and fan speed and the bar graph shows the fan setting.

If I go to auto I can only control the temperature either side, there seems to be no auto fan control - the fan speed indicator stays at one setting and can only be changed manually??

When the engine is fully warmed on a cool morning and the temperature is increased from an ambient 18 up to 25, and the fan is set to minimum, there is no change in fan speed unless I override the existing setting.

This is completely different to my two previous cars, which would have responded to the increased temperature setting by increasing the fan speed as well.

Thoughts??

Thanks in anticipation

I has a similar concern it what I've found is that the fan will be controlled automatically as you describe but only between minimum and whatever level the fans have been set at, i.e. between minimum and the 'bar' showing on the fan display.

So, if the fan is set on the minimum bar, it never increases.

If it is set on the second bar, it is automatically controlled between minimum and that level. If the bars are set at maximum, they will be automatically controlled between minimum and maximum. They won't always stay at maximum.

Try it. That's what I have found, though it was never explained to me on delivery of the car.

You're very welcome!

Interestingly I brought this up just last week when I went back to the dealer for a 'lesson' on how to use the internet, e-mail feature and send routes from google to the car (not that I'll probably use the features but may as well know how).

The expert told me that the fans didn't alter automatically, you just set them how you want them. It was only because they were left at the second bar after that meeting, where before they had always been on minimum, and I then noticed the fans changing automatically and figured it out!

Mind you, perhaps the manual tells you, but I haven't read it yet!
