I agree it's taking man maths to a new level but leave him be, he's got to justify this purchase to himself (and/or his missus) one way or another!! Does now seem as if the £18k GFV that was being talked about earlier in the thread was a tad optimistic though.....
£18k certainly was optimistic - got some hard thinking its a £44k pre further discounts purchase you can get a lot for much much less. Note the wife thinks its "a lot" too. Welshbeef said:

I'm also looking for an estate at the moment (nothing wrong with my E92 335i but just need something a bit more practical!). My two front runners are an F31 335i or an S4 Avant; the accountant in me says look at a 335d but I've tried diesel a couple of times before and it doesn't gel with the petrolhead in me I'm afraid. I did actually have a brief test drive in a F31 330d X-Drive a month or two back and frankly the lack of engine refinement compared to my 335i was appalling; perhaps it was a poor example but when I got back in my car and drove away from the dealership it was night and day and an excellent reminder that life's too short to be driving around in something you don't really like! I'd be happy to buy used but the problem is the nearly-new ones are still in the main dealer network and in truth the savings aren't that fantastic compared to the discounted prices available via Broadspeed or Drive the Deal. Besides, finding a used one F31 335i isn't that easy as they're not especially thick on the ground (presumably because most people want diesels!).
I had the old V8 S4 avant and it is, without doubt, the worst car I have ever owned, but the current one is a gem!!
I had the 335i E91 after the S4, and I think the new S4 beats that in many ways. Very un-Audi-like to drive, which is a good thing.
I think I would preefer to buy a used facelift S4 Avant for around £30k than a 335d for £37k.
The S4 will still be worth £18k trade in 4 years as well, having that S badge helps residuals no end.

I'm not so sure, the S4 is an old-platform car, the F30 3 Series is a generation ahead of it. In 4 years time the Audi A4 platform will have been around for over a decade, will non RS series one still really command £18k?The S4 will still be worth £18k trade in 4 years as well, having that S badge helps residuals no end.

As I say, the accountant in me can make a case for a 335d but I know I'd just hate it every time I started it in the garage on a morning; on the mileage I do I reckon the fuel saving would amount to less than £10/week compared to a 335i so not worth it as far as I'm concerned. I realise the S4 would be a bit more thirsty but I'm keeping an open mind - if I prefer the way it drives I'd accept the additional running cost!

Remember broadspeed on the base model alone are doing £9.050
Things have just got a little bit better Beefy! BMW's have reappeared on Drive the Deal's website and they're offering £10.4k off a standard-spec F31 335d; however, unlike Broadspeed, I think they also give a bit of discount on optional extras as well so a quote from them may well give you a bit more ammunition for when you talk to your local dealer! Thanks - that is 25% discount off list!!!!! Incredible - for me that's £38k fully loaded zero miles 5 years service pack the paint and leather protection delivery 1sr year VED. Bloody hell what a deal
Got to ask why is there such a large discount available on the car? Its a rare car just like all I6 BMW 3 series so would make sense not discounting
Anyway big thanks will use this leverage IF I progress and I'm sure others viewing this thread will make the most of these discounts.

BMW's haven't been appearing on Drive the Deal's website for a few weeks but now they're back they seem to be offering some very competitive prices! Just had a look at a new F31 335i and with a pretty decent spec it's under £37k from them (so well less than the list price of a basic, standard, car). The half reasonable spec second-hand one I've seen on BMW's website have been mid-30's but IMHO it doesn't make sense to opt for one of those when you can have a new one to your own spec for similar money (and probably with access to a better finance deal as well should you want it).Bloody hell what a deal

Why are mass manufacturer levels of discount available on these cars? Don't know, all I can think is people may have an eye on hitting quotas for the June quarter-end and/or the half-year and think they need to get the decent deals out there now if they're going to achieve their targets? However, whatever the reason it's good news for potential buyers; a discount of over 20% on a new 335 touring can't be bad!

Bit lazy You could search for that to get a definitive answer... It give an extra 300 bhp at the touch of a button for over taking... Honest.. That's what my mate said
Or check the bmw web site, it's the new Eu6 emissions regulations
It is 7am Sundayorning . Or check the bmw web site, it's the new Eu6 emissions regulations
Does it lower Official CO2 in which case lower VED banding?
Put the quote into DtD and added a few more options total is £40k all in (may delete the panoramic roof).
Awaiting the finance quote back from BMW via DtD.
Face value its £4k less with everything else the same - doubt panoramic roof adaptive cruise control lane warning and blind spot alarm will add anything to GFV.
As such £83pcm less or c£516pcm
Though really the std car with pro nav Xenons and m performance pack and enhanced Bluetooth plus heated seats and electric lumbar would be ample.

My E92 335i has adaptive cruise control and personally I hate it! Something pulls into the lane in front of you but you can see that the vehicle in question is going to overtake something and then pull back in; therefore, if you were driving yourself you'd just lift your foot but this stupid device brakes and then accelerates again when the other car moves out of the way. Doesn't make for smooth progress and can't be very fuel efficient either (and hence I almost never use it!). Awaiting the finance quote back from BMW via DtD.

My car has a black interior and, despite the coupe having a reasonable amount of glass area, I really wish whoever specced it new had ticked the box for a glass sunroof instead of adaptive cruise. Personally I don't like oppressive interiors so for me a panoramic roof will certainly feature if I spec a new F31.
