Yes I'm sure you won't get a penny off an i8 for some time yet which is why I'm annoyed that all early cars HAVE to have the £12K Impulse Pack......

I think the point being made by Craig is not that the option is £12k, but that it is NOT optional for the first 6 or 7 months (optional implies you can get the car without it, which you can't apparently, so the true launch price is £112k for the first 6 months).

Also WRT RRPs and option prices, who ever pays those? They are largely BS these days unless you have to pay BIK, in which case the Tax man is happy to screw you on the basis of those BS prices.
Point taken , I didn't read the full thread to be honest.

Finally saw one on the road yesterday; a truly brilliant shape, but boy - are they sensitive to colour.

It was in crystal white/blue. Which made it look like a lump of plastic. Damnably shapely plastic, but it looked like a moving render from a playstation game.

So how does the whole electric charging m'larkey work then. Do you need to plug it in? If you charge it up, then how long does the charge last? And, if you dont plug it it, then how long of normal driving before the clever gubbins recharge the battery anyway?

My understanding is that if the battery needs any charge it will draw it from the engine any time you are not giving the car full beans. That is one of its modes of operation at any rate.

The car is capable of charging its own batteries, but this is done for a fraction of the cost when plugged in to the mains. I will just leave it plugged in overnight, or when an opportunity arises, but don't plan to become too obsessive about it.

We currently live in a top-floor flat in the UK. Yep, you read that right! getmecoat There are a few fast charge points within 5 minutes drive which I'll be using from time-to-time but essentially we need a house with a garage in the long-term. This is indeed going to one expensive i8... hehe

My questions above were sort if aimed at this. I was thinking that if the car regenerates its batteries quickly then theres no urgent need to keep it fully charged at home. The regeneration techniques are also free.

The range in full EV mode will be severely compromised if the batteries are never fully charged but essentially yes it can be run in hybrid mode without ever having to plug in to a wall socket. That's my understanding anyhoo!.....

But surely that would be less efficient than just running on the petrol motor? The whole point is to use mains energy that costs less to produce isn't it?

Would there be a real point to the car if you're going to do that though? What would be the fuel economy in that situation?

Circa 30 MPG on the UC from what I've read. I'm not buying the car to save on fuel costs thankfully. wink

I went for the Turbine 625 alloys, with Carpo (Black) interior and headlining.
Same here, but i specifically requested the lighter headlining. Too claustrophobic inside otherwise.

Pure impulse package now is only 2 weeks delivery before regular spec. Dealer himself suggested i did not take it..

Bit strangely written, trying too hard to be interesting or funny.

OK. So it's more of a technical showpiece than a green machine?

It's a very fast Sports Car with fascinating, highly interactive tech' and drop-dead looks! That in itself was enough for me. wink
