My understanding is that if the battery needs any charge it will draw it from the engine any time you are not giving the car full beans. That is one of its modes of operation at any rate.
But surely that would be less efficient than just running on the petrol motor? The whole point is to use mains energy that costs less to produce isn't it?
Indeed. You are in effect driving both the vehicle and a generator. An EV it isn't though. It is a PHEV. Like a Prius, a Volt or an Outlander. Who then is the vehicle aimed at? I've asked myself that. It is for the PH director - type who commutes no more than 22 miles to his offices in that London, or any other congestion charged city, and who needs it for weekend fun further afield with his supermodel girlfriend / mistress / adulteress at weekends.

Test driving tomorrow!

I assume if true it means they have sold all the early slots (the first 6 months that were all built with PI package) not that you can now get one of those early slots without the PI package. Has no bearing on those that paid a few weeks ago, only those ordering now who will likely not see the car for 6 months irrespective of spec'ing PI.

Doesn't this qualify for 100% FYA and low BIK? If so I can see it would be attractive to Company owners with a big corporation tax bill looming.

School boy error.
Its not a "2-door sports car" dearest wife, its a 4-seater, environmentally friendly, revolutionally safe (carbon tub), family car. smile

From what I've been told, you're practically spec-locked at point of order. Is that what you've been told? Usually this far out (9mths) you place an order with an idea of spec but dont have to lock in to a spec until much closer to the build date.

No idea. I knew the spec I wanred for certain, so didn't even ask at what point I could no longer change it. My estimated delivery date is 15.5.15 from an order placed a fortnight ago.

Would any of the powerfully built company owners like to share their typical monthly lease/contract hire costs with a less powerfully built company owner.

If the tax breaks are as suggested and having a rather large corporation tax bill I might just place an order for one to at least benefit at some stage in the distant future

Would unerstand if those sharing would rather pm me.

Thanks

You're better off to buy one than lease one, because unlike most cars, you can get 100 percent write off against your corporation tax. It only appears back on your books as profit again once you eventually sell it.

OK and understood.

I'll look at the options and decide from there.

Unfortunately one of the first things she'd look at, as fortunately we're expecting a new addition to the family smile Being a typical man I still think I can justify one if I put my mind to it

I ordered my wife a new car too. It seemed a good distraction tactic. smile

Actually, the FYA write off is equivalent in the lease too, as your lease payments are expense deductible, so that makes no difference. Infact, the lease approach is slightly more favourable in terms of tax savings as the lease payments benefit from a reclaim 50% of the VAT, which you cant do under direct purchase. The primary difference between lease and purchase is just in the inherent depreciation built in to the lease payments; you may win or lose on that front.

Different ways of paying suit different situations I suppose. Being able to claim CT relief on the entire purchase price in the first year, rather than just the lease payments, can make a useful difference to someone looking for a fast way to reduce their CT bill by as much as they can.

LOL... I wonder how many of us did that smile I did the same, although admittedly, my wife was perfectly happy with my i8 purchase. I ordered her an i3.
