E90 330d advice please.

IIRC, the number shown on the idrive is metres until the next regeneration, not miles left on it

My previous 330d showed 140k miles when I bought it at 60k miles it had reduced to 80k when I sold it after nearly 60k miles.

Not yet still considering our options and have a bun in the oven about to burst any moment so its not top priority right now.

My Nov 2006 E91 335d doesn't show anything about the DPF in idrive. Is the info now in the hidden menus or stopped totally?

The life of the DPF seem totally dependent on thermostat condition and/or driving type(short/long journeys). Web seems to have stories of <50k failures but then you also hear of cars going past 200k without issue.

At around 70k the thermostats were sticking in my car and keeping temps below regen trigger temp during b-road/m-way driving. It would only regen after sitting in traffic/city driving. Changed both stats and now past 110k without issue.....hugs a tree

Will I need to look into replacing the oil breather for a Vortex one? Seen this issue pop up online but not sure if it affects the e90, car going to get wheels done once I get it, think I'll stick to factory colour, although seen some nice darker silvers/greys, not a fan of Black.

I know how you feel Lewis I picked up my 335i on Monday ( Le Mans Blue also )and never slept all weekend after doing the deal the previous Monday but well worth the wait.

I have always taken the car home on the day the deal is done no waiting around for days or weeks. I carry all the history mots V5 etc all with me when seriously looking at cars

Nice purchase OP. I'm on the lookout for a 330d touring in the same spec as yours. One came up recently on AT but they wanted £14k for a 2010 plate with 85k miles. That had the glass roof and was 200 odd miles away.

The search continues....

330d Tourings are rare cars, you have to be prepared to travel!
If you like it, buy it, you've only got to drive there once, and you get to have fun on the way home too

This is THE major issue on these engines IMO and not enough people or dealers know about it. Check the coolant temps and if they are not getting up to between 90 and 92 degrees and sitting there then the car needs new thermostats. If the temps hover in the 70 to 85 range when on the move the DPF will never regen (expensive in the long run) and fuel economy will be significantly impacted.

I picked up a 5 series last week and have changed the stats already - the parts will come to about £120 from a BMW dealer and its a DIYable job if you're not afraid of spanners.

I will get the stats checked, and report back. I am still convincing I made the right choice going for a diesel. I really do like a petrol 6.

Clearly a diesel was purchased as a long term ownership prospect combined with notable miles plus the style of driving it offers.

I do like the car, it's just my first purchase where I have had to consider other factors ie 4drs, economy etc. had it out yesterday with the family and it is a very nice car to drive, feels very refined. Think I just like my old car more than I like this one at the moment. Time will tell.

Get out on the road and give it a good run!
I went from a 450bhp B5 RS4 to my 330d and I actually prefer the BMW for many reasons.
Most of the time I only do short trips too, but it does do long distance every so often and gets a good blast to clear out the DPF

I have no doubt the car will prove itself to be a great all rounder, it's extremely bad timing but we have had an unfortunate death in the family, and there maybe a couple vehicles that need to be either sold or given new homes, nothing exciting but reasonably practical, and will be a shame not to keep them in the immediate family. Long story short the 330d might and only might be the car I own for the shortest period ever. (Sad day all round)
