No warranty on my 550i. Bork list since I bought it 20 months/25k miles ago: diversity aerial circa 170 quid. Which probably wouldn't be covered anyway. Money saved: 2k.

3 year old Z4 35is with 30k miles cost £371 to renew - comprehensive without emergency cover.

Given the amount of warranty work it has had done in the two and a half years I've owned it, I thought this was likely to be a bargain, particularly as BMW paid for it as a courtesy gesture.
Snap on a 5 year old 35i. It was riddled with mainly minor issues and a few bigger ones early on, like most 1st year models, which has made me stick with insured warranty awaiting any N54 or convertible roof issues etc. I'll be renewing with the emergency cover this year as I'll be taking the car through Europe. I'll reconsider the insured warranty year on year dependent on increases and any further issues with the car.

I think it might "know" that BMW are footing the bill as it hasn't needed anything apart from an oil service since renewal.

We're currently having problems with a faulty timing chain (car's 3.5 years/43k miles) warranty claim on the extended scheme. Had I know the problems/poor service I'd have saved the money back in January!

But that is a Sytners warranty, not BMW Mondial warranty.

I've got a 58 x5 very well loaded with options

There's a few things which now niggles my mind and thinking of taking out warranty

For BMW if excess is £250 as an example is that for a single visit claim or for each item?

Per item. You can't add them all up.

Warranty came up on my 25k mile X5 40D back in September - I was quoted £1300/year to renew. Dealer-supplied alternative was £900 but looked as though it wouldn't pay out if I, ah, drove it. My 911 is £2300 for two years extended, which has also just expired. I've not renewed either - the BMW because I've not seen any endemic problems on the late E70s and the Porsched because a) the quality of service from local OPC has been so poor and b) Porsche insist that I can't replace OEM items with higher quality alternatives (ie crap OEM battery with top-end Bosch with double the amperage or PS/2s with PSS). Sod the lot of 'em - I'd rather pay a good indie to look after them properly.

I've just put down a deposit for a 11 reg X5 40D sport with loads of extras and 30k miles. They've offered me 3 additional years' warranty (4 in total) for £1700. It is nationwide BMW warranty. Compared to some of the rates mentioned by others this seems reasonable, or is it?

Is that the Mondial warranty or is Nationwide the company?

I pay ( I think ) £600 a year for my 2007 X5 with the maximum excess. I think that's okay as I intend to run the car into the ground (owned since new and only done 40k miles so far) and I am sure there will be a big bill at some stage. We're about to move out of London so expecting my mileage to go up from 5k miles a year to 10 to 15,000.

The warranty expires on my '12 F13 640D at the end of the month (only had the car since last October) so deciding what my options are so that I've got an idea when I discuss it with the dealer. I'm thinking it'll be around the £600 mark, or at least hoping!

When the warranty expired on my previous '05 E46 320cd I didn't buy a warranty and it was trouble free for over 5 years. The 640d is a different beast though!

Is there a top 5 list of warranty companies I should check out? Google throws up all manner of stuff:

- click4warranty
- warrantydirect
- surewise
- warrantywise
- carwarranty

Dont shoot the messenger because I havent checked but someone somewhere suggested getting a Warranty direct "Lite" product which is very cheap but covers all the Big Bill type stuff and they do not pudh it re advertising,

ah have found it on the mercedes part of PH................................................................

I have an SLK of similar Vintage, same engine.(55 AMG)

get yourself the 'lite' warranty from warranty direct if you are concerned about big bills. only £250 ish a year and so long as you've got your own recovery via AA or what got, bingo, a cheap warranty to cover the big stuff if you are seriously unlucky. it covers big stuff, mechanical failures etc. not wear and tear and niggles. even propper warranties will wriggle out of paying for niggles and stuff so why bother with them?!

normal warranties are eye watering, £800+ i was quoted per annum!///////////////////////////////////////////////////////
