I pay about £80PM for the fully comp warranty for a 640d.

I took out the policy at 59k, they let me do so early and prior to the AUC warranty running out in order to be under the 60k mark, which would have meant it jumping to £140pm.

I’ve probably had about £6k of warranty repairs throughout the AUC.

So far throughout the repair warranty I’ve had leaky diff sorted, apparently it was a big expensive job too. Over £750.

The parts & labour rates are excessive and judging by its previous niggles I’d not own another car out of warranty within reason
Interested in your experience here as I have just rung them about a 535d I'm looking at. It's on 47k at the moment and just about to come out of manufacturers warranty. They're quoting £600 odd for the year but she told me that even if I pay monthly once it goes over 60k miles the price will go up? Her advice was to pay yearly and renew at 59k so at least you get another year cheap. Have you stayed on the same month payment beyond 60k miles?

I pay monthly and I've never had mine increased within the year, unless it's to reflect a change in Insurance Premium Tax or the like. Any adjustment is still made on the annual anniversary date of the policy. I also didn't see a bit hike in premium once it ticked over 60k.

Ah ok so you still have to renew each year even if paying monthly, and they ask the mileage at that point? That makes sense...

The jump on a 535d seems to be pretty huge, although maybe it would be less if the car had been constantly covered when it got there...

No need to renew. It just keeps on going on a direct debit, and I've never had to update the mileage, or even been called. I imagine they will update their records if it goes in for anything, but I've never been contacted directly.

It's so annoying that a 4wd automatic 335d warranty is almost half the price of the same policy for the sightly less complex but otherwise mechanically identical 5 Series.

My 2008 335i (auto) warranty with Mondial is about £45/mth (£100 excess).

This has been going monthly for almost 6 years though. It's paid for itself a couple of times over though - as turbos have been replaced twice, water pump once, fuel pump once, and a couple of small engine oil leaks fixed.

The car is on 137k miles now. smile

While that is annoying, I console myself with that any poor bcensoredd with a 520d will be paying the same hehe

Comprehensive? Possibly reflects a more complex electrical system etc? I find it hard to believe it would make that much difference to the price being a 5 series, relative to a 3 series though. Maybe they just artificially inflate the premiums depending on the model range.

Yes, Comprehensive - I think its the latter. The cars are electrically and mechanically basically the same. The 1 Series is noticeably cheaper again and the 7 Series massively more than the 5 Series. I don't think the prices set bear any resemblance to expected repair costs, they seem to set them on a per model range basis.

A 435d xDrive Cabriolet with folding metal roof is surely one of the more complex cars they sell yet has a warranty the same cost as a 318i manual and much less than any 5 Series.

As far as I’m aware, the monthly option is an ongoing cost and provided that it’s taken out prior to 60k it’ll stay the same for as long as you want. The level of cover drops off at 100k, as under that point even wear & tear items are included other than brakes & tyres etc.

Also, coming out of an AUC warranty straight into the insured is a cheaper option than comparing it online with a similar car that’s not, I assume it is because it shouldn’t have any warranty issues at the point. I couldn’t get a quote online until 30 days prior to expiration so just called them, they were happy to get a deposit down and take the mileage at that date.

I'm looking for a saloon at the moment. I've narrowed down the choice to a Lexus GS450h circa 2013 and a 7 series (petrol) BMW of the same era.
Just had a quote for a comprehensive insured BMW warranty with a £100 excess at £2300!
The Lexus insured warranty scheme quote on a buy one year, get a second year free basis is £1095...
