I've thought about a remap but no more than that.....I understand you can get gains in MPG as well as power. One of the reasons I haven't is because I still have the manufacturers warranty.....I know people like DMS say they will cover anything outside the BMW warranty but not sure I'd really want to get involved in that negotiation!

In terms of spec I really rate the following

Comfort Seats - Superb and used every single minute you're in the car
Reversing Camera - Live in London....really helps place the car for parallel parking too
Seven Seats - young kids...don't use them often but when I do they've been invaluable
Panoramic Roof - fairly obvious
Comfort Access - Young kids so always got my hands full
Bluetooth - Fairly obvious

Those are all "must have's" for me....Comfort Seats are very hard to find AUC and finding them in combo with the rest almost impossible.

Have things like heated steering wheel, side blinds, sun protection glass, folding mirrors (must in London), heated seats etc are all great to have.
Very nice spec

So you will get the same crap autobox, worse mpg, less perfomance and a worse handling car for just a few £k outlay. Awesome.
Yeah shame lol
Although more space would be handy on the 7 seat option, of friends and grandparents on short trips
Sacrifice willing to take when the other car is still a bit more spirited
I went from an LCI 535d to a new e70 3.0d SE in Nov 07 with dynamic pack, 7 seats, reverse cam, xenons, etc.

Was getting high 30's in the 535d - maybe 38mpg. Got 28mpg in the x5.

I fitted a tuning box to mine and it gave it a very significant power boost for not a whole pile. You could remap a 3.0d rather than go for an SD.

I'd no issues with the gearbox - loved it in fact. Not sure where these slow witted comments are coming from.

Loved mine to bits but the economy put me off mine very quickly. I changed job roles a month after i got mine and ended up putting £500 a month of fuel through it. PLUS tyres were £250 a corner so i was budgeting £1000 a year for tyres too.

I would be wary of a high miles car. These are cars with BIG running costs. High miles is only likely to increase that.
Thanks
Well aware mpg will be worst from the above
If doing big miles won't be my first choice

I would much rather be in a later 245bhp 3.0d facelfit than a pre facelift 3.0sd.

And there is not much in it price wise.

These seem to loose a big chunk in the first 3-4 years and then bugger all over the next 3-4 years.

2010 3.0d for £20k, so lost £30,000 and then a 56 plate will still cost you £15k.

Seems to me the sensible option is buy a 10 plate and run it for 3 years.
Good shout, not considered a facelift 3.0d, probably because not seen many lol

Did I mention the Media Pack, Dynamic Pack, Xenon's, Adaptive headlights, DAB radio, High Beam assistant, Soft Close Doors, Prof Hi-Fi and High Beam Assistant ?!?! The thing I really should have specced was Adaptive Drive though!

£57k...I think the options were £14 or £15k...base price was circa £42k in 2007. Car is probably worth £15k or so now! Although I reckon with the low mileage and the spec I'd get an extra couple of grand for it!

4.0D with that spec now would be £63k I think.

My recently bought 2007 4.8i was £62k with £11k of options. Got it for £14500.

Now I know the V8's are about as desirable as ebola, but I love it. Get 23mpg a run and the engine sounds delicious.

And your average?

A good customer of mine went from a 4.8i doing 19 average to a 3.0d that saw 23mpg, he was seriously not impressed.

What mileage is yours?

I've seen one on autotrader, private, very similar to the one I linked at the beginning of thread, but its £2k+ more than what the linked one sold for. Don't want to phone up and low ball straight in to what I think its worth, but the one sold is I think a good indicator for private prices, so we shall see

About 17-18 I guess. Not great, but I probably won't do more than 5-6000 miles a year in it.

So £10 a week if differnce at 18mpg vs 25mpg over 6000 miles.
So even someone doing 12k miles a year is only paying £20 a week more.

Hmmm? Keep seeing loads of really nicely specced 4.8i's out there for £15k. Tempting. wink

I've just gone from a 2003 Cayenne Turbo to the 4.8i and don't miss the Cayenne for a moment. The X5 seems to pull better without having to wait for two turbo's to spool up. It handles better. Rather like a big fat Mini Cooper S and it sounds better too. Go for it. smile

Mine's done 33 k miles FBMWSH and still under Warranty. I think the spec, mileage and warranty would make my car a relatively easy sale when/if I want to change it. I thought about ordering a new one but it's not a £50k better car....I'd rather spend that on something for Sunday morning.

Just crunching some numbers on a 535i sport touring, but would want to keep the ML.

I owned an early E70 3.0d for 18 months and averaged 26.4mpg in that time.

I've owned an E70 x40d LCI for 8 months and averaging 26.6mpg.

Best of both worlds get the x5 the the 535i when depreciation settles a bit more

The 535i is cheap enough now, and to be honest I love the ML so don't want to let it go really.

Wouldn't be that lovely 535i which is on AUC website at the moment would it? wink

Love it but wife wouldn't let me make a phonecall (probably quite rightly!).
