Another very satisfied M135i owner here too.

My experience so far,

Bought car in April 2013, I have covered about 18k miles since then. I went for the run-flats and almost all the options barring sun-roof and lane safety stuff so my car is very well equipped and a lovely place to spend the commute in.

As far as reliability goes I had a set of wheels that after around 800 miles in were all buckled - apparently this is not unheard of and BMW left me on my own to get this problem corrected - which was very disappointing to say the least...

Other than that in the 18k miles mostly covered on the M25 between Essex and Heathrow the M135i has used around 1.5 mm of tread on the front tyres and 2mm of tread on the rear. I am running the Bridgestone S001 RFT tyres option - and whilst I know the ride is nicer on the non-runflat Michelins it really is not that bad at all on the run-flats. I think BMW have tuned the suspension to take a lot of the extra stiffness you find in the run-flat rubber.

As far as reliability goes, other than have to put screenwash, petrol and this weekend my first litre of Castrol Edge in the car it has been flawless. It has been re-called once for a drainage channel check and that is it.

With regards to mpg - I can easily get 40+mpg on the M25 commute, which for me is 64 miles to heathrow - all of which is the M25 bar 1 junction of the M4. Of course if you drive the M135i in a more 'spirited' fashion it is very easy to see much less consumption that what I am getting - as a rule of thumb a full tank of fuel should return you around 375-400 miles. I am very pleased with this aspect of the car.

The on-board technology that BMW has these days is very good indeed, I use the real time traffic information a great deal and the adaptive xenons lights are really great for dark and twisty country lanes.

So for me - I cannot think of another car for the price/all round ability to replace the M135i - I have to confess that I prefer the look of the M235i but I would still pick the 'uglier' M135i over it as the rear hatch is great for the tip, mountain bikes, diving gear or whatever.

If I were forced to go for another brand I guess the Golf R would be worthy of a look but I think I have had my fair share of hot golfs over the years and I am enjoying the rear-drive more than I would enjoy the all-round greatness of the Golf R.

The AMG A45 might be worth a look too - but you know what, there is something lovely about a BMW straight six even if they are forced induction nowadays.

I have the service pack on mine and the car (today) reckons it has another 6k miles to go before it has its first service.

I really like my car but I perfectly except that it is not the best looking car in the world smile but you know what, from the interior and from the drivers perspective it is very near to the top of the pile of being the best cars that I have owned.

Also and this may not be a relative point to the OP - but when I pull up at the staff car park in my M135i, nobody raises an eyebrow and thinks that Captain Flash-heart has just arrived it blends in perfectly with the countless other euro-boxes.

I tend to change my cars every two years or so and I might just end up replacing it with another... who knows?

All the best.
