Hi
I am thinking of buying a 633csi or 635csi. Is it possible to attach an ipod to the oem system or would
I need to replace the unit. If it needs a replacement is it possible to get a unit with an integrated sat nav and Bluetooth that would fit in its place
Thanks
Paul

Attaching an iPod is bound to be via a tape adaptor only surely?

Later cars at least should have the single DIN size stereos, so something like this would do the job:

Thanks for the reply I assume that any 1din system with a flip screen would kill all the birds with one stone if I can find one that fits aesthetically

Gold standard for single din sat-nav and bluetooth is a Becker.

Hi,

Becker, when they were around for high quality aftermarket car audio were indeed very highly regarded. However, a number of years ago now they withdrew from the market and I believe they still make oem car audio or might even have exited from that market too. Any Becker decks around are likely to be very old now and I'm fairly sure none had ipod control ( I may be wrong though!)

Here's one that looks excellent from Clarion, however, I think this model is also discontinued now, two showing on ebay UK though!

It's the Clarion FZ102E single DIN, mechless unit. No Ipod control it seems, so you'd need to convert music onto a USB stick. It does look excellent in the E36 dash here, so in an E24, I can imagine it'd also look quite good too

Cheers, Dennis!

Becker head units did have Ipod control. Probably won't work with any of the latest iphones though

Grand Prix has ipod and bluetooth

Indianapolis Pro has nav too

They're fairly pricey and you'll have to look on ebay to find one now

The Indianpolis Pro is very hard to find

Thanks everybody for your suggestions. Whilst a Becker appears the best the only ones available on Ebay are 1-5K !!
I think my best bet would be a Pioneer or a Clarion with a flip out screen

I went for a Blaupunkt Toronto BT400 in each of my M635CSi and Alpina B10 4.6 Touring. They have a CD/radio, decent phone Bluetooth, bluetooth streaming (which I don't use) and an aux in which I use for either my iPod or a personal DAB which works brilliantly in the car.

As well as somber, non-bling finish the two trick features I like are the back-colour which can be set to 4000 different shades (so near as dammit BMW amber/red) and the IR steering wheel remote control.

I use my dash mounted phone if I need sat-nav. Were it not for these I would probably have gone for the Becker Indianapolis Pro and went without the steering wheel controls.

Hi Tomic,

Thanks for updating me on that! It's a shame Becker decided to exit the aftermarket car audio market. However, given that nowadays many owners don't wish to change their head units, and given their 'high end' pricing and resulting decline in sales, it was perhaps not such a shock. Nakamichi also pulled out of the car audio market as well. Other brands previously known for excellence also exited the market - Boston Acoustics, Image Dynamics etc etc.

There are some 'conservative' looking single DIN head units which could work quite well in an E24, here's a couple more

I have settled on a Clarion NZ502E which looks suitably understated with the screen closed yet will still do all the modern things. My only doubt is the depth of the unit which is 195mm compared with the 150mm of the Pioneer. I cannot get at the car at the moment so does anyone know if it will accommodate the deeper unit
