Many thanks for the torque values searched high and low on the net yesterday for hours without success.
Didn't purchase new sensor wires as the pads are fine, although worn, so no wear/contact on sensor; its the discs that are below/around the minimum thickness driving the change and I would never put old pads with new discs so its a full set of discs and pads.

How do they measure wear?
As far as I was aware the sensor is simply a mechanism that, by grounding with the disc, identifies when the pads have reached a minimum (do something now) thickness.
My car has already had one set of pads, front and rear, and only had front sensor replaced as it had activated the brake (pad thickness) warning light.

I am pretty sure that is not how my F11 works. They simply ground out when the pad wears to a certain minimum thickness. The "guesstimate" on pad life is calculated by computer and notoriously inaccurate in my experience.Car that run CBS have dual stage sensors with 2 wire that trigger at different times, so you need to inspect your sensors to see what has been triggered, if anything, 1st trigger is at about 50% pad wear. To save arsing around pulling wheels twice it easier to change it all at the same time it 's not like the sensors are expensive, but your call.

I was simply saying I didn't realise sensors were two stage.Having removed front left I can confirm that although no brake warning light on dash contact has been made on disc so assume first 'wire' triggered (still loads of meat on pad though). On this basis will be parking job until tomorrow when I can purchase the sensors, front and rear (car has one at front left and one at rear right)

If I haven't triggered the second wire how do I do a reset?

Car is September 2010.Funny thing is when i took the rear brakes apart the rear sensor still hadn't contacted the disc (at all) but due to its age I suppose a corner of the backing of the sensor split off as I pulled it off the pads!
Other problem was the new rear discs; there were two listed with Europarts so I rang them and they told me I needed part 104111056 (Textar discs) when I stripped rear this afternoon the disc supplied is too shallow (wheel mating face to back of disc by about 10-15mm so taking an old one with me when I go to pick up sensors tomorrow and hope they can change.

0448 is a 90 degree sensor 1093mm in overall length, 0938 is a straight sensor 1110mm in length. You probably need the 0448, but it's easy to check.Rear sensor - Euro Parts list two with no apparent difference between 106110488 and 106110938

Resetting should be possible form your iDrive, if fitted, or your instrument display.
Get in the car , close the door, ensure all doors are closed.
Turn on ignition but do not start the car.
Press & hold the trip meter reset button for approx 10 seconds, until 1st service item is displayed in display between your speedo and tacho.
Toggle through the various service items using the up/down rocker on your indicator stalk, until you get to front brakes.
Press in and hold for approx 3 seconds the button on the end of your indicator stalk until 'Reset' appears, then release the button and press and hold for approx 3 seconds.
Reset should occur, repeat process for rear brake.
