I recently purchased an X5 from a main dealer. The alloys were badly scuffed and the sales guy said they would be restored prior to sale. On collection he said that they were badly corroded and will be replaced FOC by BMW. He mentioned this is a common issue and so there is a large back-order with the factory for new alloys.

That was the end of June. I have now lived with damaged alloys for nearly four months and starting to worry that I've been fleeced.

Does anyone know if this is indeed a common issue, and does that backlog sound reasonable. I can't find anything on internet searches.

Thanks

Call BMW and ask? If they say you can pick them up in a week after ordering then you have been had.

I had a similar issue on my X5, I purchased my AUC car in September 2013 and noticed an issue with the Shadowline trim on the door underneath the wing mirror. The dealer said it would be replaced but as it was on back order they would order the required part and fit it when it arrived. The part took 10 months to turn up but to be fair to my dealer they kept in contact every month or so checking just to make sure it didn't drop off their's or my radar and fitted it when my car recently went in for it's MOT.

Yep a known problem with these wheels, I recently traded mine in against a new BMW but not before I'd had all 4 wheels swapped under warranty for the 2nd time. The last set were on back order for 4 months and were from a different manufacturer, they were slightly different in that the edges on the spokes didn't seem as sharp and was told this was to stop the de-lamination/ water ingress with the lacquer seen on the original sets

Ive just put a deposit down on a 2010 x5 over the phone and been to see it tonight and it has the same problem, very bad corrosion around centres. Told the salesman i want them replaced, he says he will ask but cant promise anything but did offer to paint them which I've declined. I know bmw were replacing on warranty but sales guy said he doubts it as car is 4yr old. Also drivers seat looks terrible also said want that sorted
