Has anyone bought an X4?
Discussion
I have an X3 30D, which has the same drivetrain as the X4. Find the 30D engine very punchy, and mated with the 8 speed auto it is an excellent combination. Interior wise the fit and finish is not quite at the level of say a 5 series (or indeed the new X6), but at least on par with a 3 series. The ride is very good indeed (mine has the optional Dynamic Drive) and for a SUV type thing, apart from the higher driving position, the driving experience is close to a 3 series, and even feels more composed than the slightly wallowy 5 series.
As to the X4 specifically, I found the rear seat space adequate but the sloping roof line does make headroom limited for anyone above 5'10. Also essential to get rearview/Top view camera, as rear visibility is poor.
Maybe a Porsche Macan is worth a look too, as they are very similar in price (before options at least)

I saw one it Sytners 2-3 days ago, a dark metallic blue 2.0d M Sport. I quite like it, it looks good, is decently specced and I'd ride in one. But: I looked at a 218d Sport Coupe, that was quite smart as well and was about 28 grand. Looked at the price tag on the X4........
............£42'000! Even the cheapest misery SE is £37 grand. Someone somewhere is taking the pi55 surely? Sorry but when you can get a Nissan Juke Nismo RS for under 22 grand, 42 big ones is a pisstake. Yes, the Juke is a foot shorter but it's got loads of spec and is a 7 second to 60 car with 4 wheel drive.
£42'000 my arse!

I haven't seen a new X6 or an X4 out in the wild at all.
I may have seen a new X6 but it looks so similar to the original, I probably haven't noticed it. I have seen one X4 today, an SE in silver with the nasty black trim around the arches. Looks like a Vauxhall Antara that fell off a transporter and landed on its roof. It has to be an M Sport but they're so expensive - 7 grand more than the equivalent X3.I've tried Macan, X3 and X4.
Macan is nice to drive but like all 3, not even a passing resemblance of a real 4x4 if that is what you need. All 3 are silly prices, but the Macan if in cloud cuckoo land and massively overpriced, although it will sell in droves. X4 just as nice to drive and slightly less stupidly priced, but still pretty stupid. X3 (Both BM's were the 30d) probably most sensible of the 3.
None cut it if you really need a 4x4 (but most people don't) All nice cars. You have to give credit to Porsche salesmen for their ability to keep a straight face whilst justifying the cost of very basic stuff which is "extra" At least the BM salesman managed to look a little sheepish when doing the same!

With a bit of discount a 2.0d X3 SE is 28-29 grand which although a lot of money still, is not unreasonable when a Qashqai is 27k. The X4 will be for rich housewives, the folk to whom 40 grand is neither here nor there.Macan is nice to drive but like all 3, not even a passing resemblance of a real 4x4 if that is what you need. Can I buy one for that ! Lucky sods.
A fairly standard spec X3 is going to cost you at least £35k .. If I could get a 25% + discount on a car with a twelve month waiting list for a new one I'd be delirious
I know .. I have one on order !
Ordered in July 14 hopefully coming in March 15
The dealers can't get them, global demand outstrips factory capacity and each country is rationed. The dealers I have spoken too say that they could sell every one they get for list several times over. I was offered 2-3% discount

Saw one in my local dealer last week, it is indeed a smaller X6, not a 3 series at all, although the interior is sadly like a 3 series, the quality is nothing at all like a 5 or 6 series. This one was over £42k too in white MSport, I would'nt go near it at that money I am afraid, my 5 MSport I got for less than that.
