Hi All,

My brother is looking at these, likely to be 2005-2008 in year, with 75k miles plus. He needs a touring due to all the family gear and his job. He has had BMWs before but all were E30s, my favourite being a 325i touring.

Anyway, I would appreciate it if owners could shed any light on the key things to look out for, I've heard swirl flaps...no idea what they are or what they do, but allegedly they break. Are there any must haves? I think the engine gained more power in 2006 ish. I'm sure they have ben discussed on here a lot, so any useful links would also be good because pistonheads search is a little limited...

Thanks

Simon

I've recently bought a 2007 525 touring. Great car, 2007 models (LCI) got the power and other updates - well worth looking for as the have "lifetime" DPF and updated swirl flaps which shouldn't cause an issue.

Issues I inherited with the car (both very common) were thermostats failed and wiring in bootlid broken - both very fixable, did it all myself for little cost. Car goes fantastically well. I bought a manual as it was about 30% cheaper (and I prefer manuals). At 97K my car drives and feels like a new car - coming from a Mercedes with very poor build quality I'm very impressed so far.
