Hi

Wonder if anyone can help me?

I'm currently going through the, very enjoyable process, of picking a new car.

And despite my natural desire not to own a BMW the M5 is near the top of the list.

Can anyone give me any advice on owning / specifying an M5?

Many thanks in advance for any tips or thoughts you can give me.

Morty

What kind of stupidity is a natural desire not to own a BMW? Get something else.

Which generation M5 are you thinking? E28, E34, E39, E60, F10? What sort of budget?

Hi

An S63, the new model, I was wondering if existing owners had any preferences for what should be on it?

S63 is an F10.

They are pretty well speced anyway with things like HUD, Nav, DAB, sun roof etc.

M-Multi function seats are nice.

Carbon Ceramic brakes work well, but are an expensive option.

B&O sound system is good, but probably not worth the extra for most people.

Style 343M wheels are forged, other wheel styles are cast. The 19 inch wheel options are probably better performance wise, 20 inch look nice.

Full leather significantly enhances the quality feel of the interior, but is an expensive option.

Most of the various optional gadgets work quite well, lane departure warning is pretty useless though.

Powered boot lid is nice to have.

Surround view makes parking much easier.

There are loads of other options, like heated steering wheel, split folding rear seats, comfort access, sot close doors, Alcantara head lining, Night vision, rear seat entertainment, DVD Changer, LED head lights etc. none are essential, but depending on personal preference may make one car more desirable than another.

Not many common faults cropping up, except perhaps squealing brakes. But due to the complexity of the car systems, DCT, Twin Turbo engine, Adaptive dampers etc etc a car with AUC warranty is worth having, dealers will often throw in a second year to clinch a deal. Try and avoid ex lease cars, they tend to be driven hard and won;t have had any extra interim oil changes (standard changes are 18K miles apart).

If I did it again I'd go full leather. Upgraded stereo is wasted on my ears sadly.

Also, glad I got the 19"s re ride comfort. 20"s look good though.

And the brake squeal is a massive pain to which they currently have no cure.

Otherwise a staggering car which comes very well equipped as standard.

To be fair, I can relate. The type of people I associate with BMW ownership are not people I want to be associated with, myself. But unfortunately, minus the badge, the 5 series was the best 'fit' for the criteria I had.

I agree, I love my old BMW, I hate the image, I don't really care for the badge, I just like that model enough to buy it.

Why would think like that? Very strange outlook on life if you don't mind me saying so.
