The Head of Sales at my local dealer told me that the 6 series coupe has "become a problem" for them....they sell many more GC's and Cab's and hardly sell any Coupe's (this is new). The achilles of the Coupe has always been IMHO that the packaging means that on the odd occasion you'd want the rear seats they are not that different to a 3 series. GC has the looks and is a lot more practical.
I think you're being kind by describing them as not that different then a 3 series. IMO they are worse then the 3/4 series. andrewr said:
I must admit I really like my 640d coupe. I didn't want a fabric convertible for everyday and don't need the practicality of or especially the size of the GC.
No plans to sell mine.
delighted with mine too, no need for the back seats and imo the external lines of the coupe are nicer than the GCNo plans to sell mine.

Its a lovely car, but at full RRP its in to 911 territory for example. If it had useable rear seats I think it could compete as the practical choice in that price segment, but as effectively a two seater with occasional seats I think that explains the discounts needed. That's not to say the GC isn't also over priced, they are having to discount that aswell, but it's got less to fall to be competitive against its competition.

I always liked the look of the current 6er (not so much the previous one), but many other cars i'd rather spend my money on (at or remotely near RRP) if it can't be a practical 4/5 seater coupe/convertible. On the other hand the GC (which I bought) made sense in comparison to the competition (although I still got a healthy discount).

I've recently bought a two year old, very well specced 640d Sport for low £30's. I couldn't spec a 320d new for that. I had a 635d a few years ago so I had a good idea what I was buying. Astoinishing economy. Over the last 1000 miles of my 16 mile each way commute I have been getting 39mpg (compared with 40mpg per the trip computer) This is much better than my previous A5 3.0 TDi whick struggled to better 32 mpg over the same journey.
The only downside is the winter, but I will be fitting Vredstein Wintrac's this time, so will see.

I was...didn't want to offend anyone! Great looking car but packaging inside is woeful.
I'm seriously considering a 6-series cab at the moment but am struggling with how such a large car can have such small rear seats and such a useless boot space. I really really want one, but my little one only 'just' fits in the back with his babyseat. The other option is a Mercedes CLS 350 Grand... stacks of space, huge boot, great fuel economy, but not as 'special' as the 6-series. You might suggest that I consider a 6-series coupe (I don't have GC money), but other than better boot space, the case for it is even worse (against a CLS).
I'm really not sure which way I will go. I know it won't be a 3-series though as despite it having a folding metal roof and more space in the back than a 6, it just isn't really 'grown up' enough.

The boot is huge on the coupe I think. The other option is a Mercedes CLS 350 Grand... stacks of space, huge boot, great fuel economy, but not as 'special' as the 6-series. I considered the CLS, but it doesn't look as good inside or out and the engine is no-where near as good and 50 ponies down.

I'm only prepared to put up with the woeful space in the rear in exchange for a cab... the 6-series coupe doesn't get a look in (and I guess this is also why they seem to suffer more depreciation than the cab). The CLS is of course not as 'special' as a 6, but it is more special than a 5-series or e-class, and has stacks of practicality to boot.I considered the CLS, but it doesn't look as good inside or out and the engine is no-where near as good and 50 ponies down.
The only thing I'm slightly daunted about is running a modern diesel in terms of reliability (dpfs etc)

I had a 640D coupe on a 2 year lease until may this year. It is a big car. Awesome power, hugely comfortable, excellent quality interior and a great grand tourer. It was excellent on a drive to the south west of France. Economy is very good for a car of that size and power. The boot is huge but the rear seats are pretty useless. When it went back I was offered the chance to buy it for 35k but fancied a change and bought an m235i
