Hi guys,

I'm looking at getting a new car and have really got the idea of a 535d stuck in my head, I did consider one before but the time wasn't right. I want to save up for next year in getting an E92 M3 next year maybe.

Now in the year im looking at doing around 16k mileage. But I need the power, I might consider a 530d if its in amazing spec but not really looking for one. Really want to 535d.

In regards to the cars, what are the differences? I know most of the generic pre/post facelift stuff like different interior bits and lights but focusing just on the 535d, whats different? From my research its the gearbox, post facelift has a bit more power (but I am guessing both engines are the same just different tune so a remap to both cars will be similar power outputs?)

Also the MPG is slightly better in the post -facelift? by maybe 4-8mpg? Am I right?

Does the pre-facelift have more problems than the post or are they both similar in every other way?

Thanks

T
I had a pre-lci E61 535d and averaged 30mpg over 30,000 miles over 2 years.

It was a good car overall but the M Sport suspension was just too soft for my liking and wallowed too much in the corners.

If you're buying a pre-lci, make sure the swirl flaps have been removed and the car is getting up to 90C and staying there. If it's not, then you'll more than likely need to change the thermostats.
The torque converters were also a weak point on the pre-lci car and you may find the TC slips a little when the revs get to around 1500 rpm and you try to accelerate hard again.

Make sure the car doesn't smoke when under load as it could be a sign of carbon buildup in the EGR or inlet manifold or a partially blocked DPF.

I would definitely recommend trying to find an LCI car as the interior is slightly better, the swirl flaps are plastic and auto box is far better.

Good luck with your search though. thumbup
