Does anybody know if its possible to simply swap out the climate control units on the 2014 LCI F10 BMW between the std (fitted to the 520d variant) and the 'enhanced features' version on the petrol & 6-pod diesels? It looks a simple enough job to remove/replace the unit or is there more to it for the £300 BMW wanted as a factory fit upgrade e.g. it will need coding to the car, the connections on the rear are different or there are additional componants beyond the control unit?

For those that are interested, this 'upgrade' is a 10 minute job - A simple 'plug n' play' swap for the non extended features module. £30 inc P&P off ebay. Less than a 10th of what BMW want for this option on the 520d!!

How can it be that simple? the regular version lacks various sensors including a sunload sensor on the dash?

Presumably it upgrades the panel to the features available by virtue of the extra buttons though, have you done this succesfully?

What is the difference between the 2?

Is it 4 zone climate v 2 zone in the front only?

Everything seems to work as it should, admittedly I haven't checked the accuracy/regulation of the temperature control with a digital thermometer but thats an easy enough job to do. Maybe the latest LCI variant of the F10 is built with everything in place bar the functionality of the panel. Where is the sun load sensor located? that would be the easiest thing to check to see if I have one or not.

Independant 2 zone in the front for temp, airflow & directionality.
