Hi,

About to buy a Z4 Alpina off my brother who has moved over to a 911..(Pic Below)

Price i think i reasonable, in fact, its well under £10k, mileage is high but we think the engine has been changed or been fully reconditioned - as its super smooth, no rattles etc.. compared to the other Alpina z4, and coupe he has also owned.

So it would be a shame to let it go..as there were only 300 made!

All the bushes etc, under the car have been changed for new ones over the last few years of owner ship..

It has a sticking steering column issue when hot: found this but unsure of repair costs http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=141...

I am hoping to use this as a second car, as i have a 535d that i use as a family car.

Having issues with getting insurance on the car, paying £350 on the 535d, 35, clean licence and 6 years NCD - its £900 on the Z4, with 4000 miles declared.. (as i cant use my NCD on this car)

Insurance companies sites do not pick up car details with the number plate - anyone know why this maybe?

Anyone got any idea's? and any other advice before i dive in to buy the car..

Some insurance companies won't touch Alpinas and class them as an imported car. Mine is insured through Admiral, no issues. There are others out there too. There are some threads on the Alpina Register forums which will give you ideas of other insurance companies to approach.

Thanks will check the link..

Admiral quoted £900 - but i called them as i have 2 cars insured with them already..

Quoted me £87 till my renewal date - worked out £1 per day.

they said they mirror the NCD on my first car for my second car - which is 9 years.. .online i had to put it to 0 years NCD as they had been applied to my other car..

so hopefully my renewal will be near £370 - £400 next year.

trying to join the forum...any idea what the answer to this question is?

ffs, why could they just not make it a simple one!

What is the B number of the new model ALPINA launched at Tokyo? *
Answer the Textual Confirmation question to prove you are not a spambot.

that's a bit of a stinker.

The website is pretty pooly laid out, just a mass of information with no specific order to it. In there, I see that the B3 GT3 was launched at Tokyo

Nope not working...

it says what B number...so guessing its just 3, but have tried B3 and B3 GT3

Wrong answer to the Textual Confirmation question.

Also looking more into the sticking steering wheel issue - seems to be an expensive fix!

Hi

Sounds like a good price.

What sort of mileage has it done?

I insure mine with Classic line, agreed value and mileage, I pay just over £300 per year although I am 52.

There is an issue with head gaskets failing, from memory I think generally shows up as a poor idle but as others have said check the Alpina register forum.

The steering issue is covered thoroughly here http://www.z4-forum.com, I have had no experience of either of these problems but mine has only done 41 k.

Fantastic car with superb performance.

Go for it!!
