Agreed if you want 50+ mpg you might as well get a 320d, I never use eco pro mode it's awful.

Well - I had a loaner 420d M sport on Sat.
The engine was horrible - as in very rough loud and non linear performance. When I got back in the big D the noise was totally different as in hardly audible and the performance smooth.

I like having the ability of a fast car as and when I like but also the ability to nail cracking economy too. Hence IMHO cars like the 335d/535d are total compromise cars but you fully accept that and really enjoy them.

Its not an M5 - so anything less than that is a compromise. (That in itself is high praise indeed).

Had a great drive home mpg is up to 43mpg now.... Must be learning how to drive it to its best

Is that mpg figure per the computer or calculated manually? Only reason I ask is that my 335d says it's doing around 43 on the computer but the truth is the best part of 4mpg less; computer seems much less accurate than my old E92 335i in this respect which is both surprising and a touch disappointing......

I'll have to wait until I fill up - only had one tank so far and that came within 1 mpg of the OBC. My old E90 330d auto came in about 2mpg ish out in the worst case (best was fill up and drive a very long trip v lots of short trips).

I keep excel details for all my tanks so will be able to see if this stays close or is inaccurate.

There is a way, can't remember how, but you can tweak the OBC to be more accurate.

No, you had a 320d loaner at the weekend, so I presume your car was in the dealer? Hence the question.
