E46 320d Help needed please

As above I have a e46 320d, it has developed a mattalic rattle on start up and throughout the rev range. Having done some research and a physical exam it seems to be coming from the crankshaft pulley.

Is there anyone here that could advise whether they have had a similar problem and associated noise?

I am possibly looking to do the replacement myself or possibly ask a mechanic friend of mine to help (do it for me) but don't want to rush out and buy the parts without checking it out first.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They are know to fail, but without seeing and hearing yours difficult for anyone to confirm or otherwise your diagnosis. Why not get your mechanic friend to have a look.

Thanks for the reply, I guess it would be difficult to tell without hearing/seeing it.
I am waiting for him to come back from being off shore.

Finally fixed, as suspected crankshaft pulley was knackered.

Not easy to have the bolt holding it on removed but once brute force and ignorance were unleashed we got it out.

part was ordered from Euro Car Parts and delivered within an hour of ordering so extremely happy about the service received and cost, would definitely recommend them and will use again.
