There's a guy on m5board with over 300k miles with no major engine work and it looks as new. Good to see!

It'd be interesting to see some dyno figures for that engine. Guess there's no reason for it to be down on power it it's been serviced with good fluids regularly and not thrashed from cold.

A good friend of mine works for Porsche locally and I am pretty sure they took this car in px perhaps 2 years or so ago at approx 270k miles. The previous owner put pretty much all of those miles on it over 10 years and it had full BMW history. It was sold to a trader, supposedly for export, but it looks like that never happened.

At the time I had a E39 and I was gutted I missed the chance to possibly but it, can't remember what the trader ended up paying, but it was perhaps £2-2.5k tops. Would be nice to see it pass 300k!

I see no problems providing the body is straight and true and it was not repaired after a bad accident. It has a good service record so I guess it should be fine. I am sure things would need doing with that mileage but it should be good for a while yet. I would also be interested in dyno numbers.

200k is nothing on a modern BMW TDI heck even 15 years ago that was nothing to them.

I'd wager - given the owners follow correct servicing - that petrol or diesel the engines would last 500k++ without any need for rebuilds.

You may need a couple of clutches or new auto boxes on the way and possibly two or three new drivers seats steering wheels.

End of the day get a reliable car which fits your needs and looks good it could last you a lifetime as a daily driver only needing changing I'd you need a bigger car or off-road ability
