The f34 BMW 3 series loaner I've been given has the mirror tilt to kerb on reverse feature but no electric seats - only folding/dimming wing mirrors option - is this now a standard feature on f30/34?

It's option 430:

Exterior mirrors – folding, automatically dimming, tinted blue and including mirror memory, automatic dipping parking function for passenger side mirror when reversing, and electric fold-in function for both exterior mirrors.

Nothing to do with the electric memory seats. This option still has to be specced on top to get that.

If it were me, I'd spend £30 more and get a reversing camera. Never really liked the tilting mirrors.

Saves scuffing diamond cut alloys though

Good point - the loaner has got the reversing camera - like the fact it shows red line for max turning and the green based on the steering lock you have got. Not that great on my early morning starts with the dew though - can't see jack st out the back.

Also like the auto dimming and folding on holding the lock button down - cool.

For another £215 (£545 total) you can have the parking package wobble

Or step away from the options list... You people have already taken me from a 320d se to fire breathing 335d with bells. The last thing I need is more trinkets on it.

Can't speak for an F34, but on my F21 having electric seats gives the dipping mirror in reverse. I don't have folding mirrors, just to make that really clear.

Touch wood, this has not happened yet nor will it.

Okay, OP, I might be wrong on this then. I've just tried to do some digging as I was under the impression this was part of the auto dipping mirror. On a quick look on the brochures, a 1 series say's you get it with electric seats, and nothing to say if you do or don't on the auto dimming mirrors. And on the 3 series, it's vice versa. There share the same option codes so are usually interchangeable so would suggest ticking either one of those two options would get you the dipping feature.

Both options share one part number which is the same, but it's all in German so can't understand the specifics. I've fired off an email so I'll let you know on Monday.

But is short, brochure would suggest on a F30 you need the dimming mirrors. In reality, if you've specced electric seats, I'd imagine that will have this too.

... Good news and bad.

The spec is locked down so production date is set so no changes to the spec frown

Not 100% sure about this but isn't the facility to look down at the kerb part of the automatic parking function that comes with the electric/memory seats? I think that park function may also come as part of the folding/dimming mirror option as well so that being the case ticking the box for either electric/memory seats or folding/dimming mirrors will give you the look down at the kerb function?

I've got an F34 with folding mirrors specced as an option, but no electric seats.

On older BMW's the memory function for the positioning of the mirror was included within the seat memory, so if you spec'd memory seats you got the dipping mirror.

On the newer cars its now a part of the electric folding mirror option as stated above.

My colleague informs me that as originally thought, you have to spec option 430 which is the auto dimming so sadly doesn't look you are getting it.

My new car will be here in a few weeks (F32) which has the memory seats as standard and doesn't have the 430 option so I'll see what mine does.

I thinking the tilt to kerb is, in the main, more trouble than it's worth. It's fine when reversing into a kerb but reversing out of a garage, parking space etc it doesn't help.

So just flick the switch on the drivers door and it'll disable it...

Ok but in that case what does the automatic parking function that comes with the electric memory seats consist of? My assumption was that an exterior mirror that tilted to look at the kerb was at least part of it but if not what else does that parking function offer?!

Doesn't automatic parking park the car for you?

No, I think that's Park Assist which is only available in conjunction with the Advanced Parking Package! If you look at the details on the electric/memory seat option on the BMW website it definitely talks about an Automatic Parking Function which I took to mean an exterior mirror which tilts to look at the kerb - could well be wrong though!
