Is they anything official regarding this 2k additional loyalty discount? I have two BMW's on the drive and have just agreed a deal on an M5 no mention of the additional 2k but they did give me £13,500 off it.

No but your dealer should be aware,

But Applies to PRE LCi 6 series only!

Being aware and passing it on are two different things, but you say it is just applicable to the pre LCI M6, not other models like the M5?

The only issue you'll have is there are hardly any Pre LCi M6's left in the country

Sorry Mustard, not getting an M6 I'm getting an M5 (stock car) pick it up 1st March, I was more asking if the 2k loyalty was applicable to the M5 as well? But I think you're saying no just the pre LCI M6?

Do I take it you're waving the white flag at the 335d and the M5 is a replacement rather than an additional vehicle?!

Yeah white flag raised! It's going back in exchange for the M5.

Not entirely surprised, got the vibe late last year that you weren't really bonding with the 335d! If I'm honest I can understand why because, competent though my F31 335d certainly is, it's not what I would call an engaging steer. In terms of straight line go it would probably give my old M3 CS a good run for its money (certainly up to 100mph) whilst using a fair bit less fuel in the process; however, as a car to drive it's just not on the same planet and is proof (if ever it were needed) that things like impressive 0-60 stats do not in themselves a great car make! Anyway, sure you'll find the M5 more to your liking and hope you didn't take too much of a soaking with the trade-in on the 335d!

So you guys can afford to drop £50k on a car and it seems many of you will do under 12k miles per year so why is no one looking at the 640i or even the 650i? or are the offers not so strong on these?

I was tempted by the 640 but then bought something else in the end.

The 640i is a pretty rare beast in the UK.

All the decent offers are on the 640d.

If you look at the likes of MB and Audi you'd be hard pressed to find offers on petrol variants over 2.0 litres.

It's a self-fulfilling market thing. People buy larger diesels because they perceive they are cheaper to run. The resulting lack of popularity of petrol variants means residuals are bad. Which makes diesels cheaper to finance so they are cheaper to run. Crazy. So regardless of low annual mileage the diesel makes more financial sense.

That said the 460 or so lb/ft at low revs from the 640d does have some merit ....

I was tempted by the 640 but then bought something else in the end.
The reasons are as follows:

1. The finance / PCP offers are ONLY on the 640d and not the 40i or 50i
2. The 640i feels a tad underpowered against the diesel
3. The 650i is epic, but there aren't any deals around - if there had been I would have chose over the 40d
4. Value for £££ is pretty amazing - 145 CO2's, 51mpg (combined) and decent bhp and torque to boot.

As a previous 35i engine owner I drove the 640i first and apart from the diesel noise I preferred the diesel.

Congratulations on the incoming vehicle Wills!thumbup really pleased for you and I totally get why the 335d hasn't hit the spot.

I am not that impressed with that engine in the 640d either because it just doesn't offer any soul or reward and you get bored with the engine so quickly, its just an engine to cover big miles with offering 40 mpg and decent overtaking punch.

That diesel engine is just a tool to do a job and nothing more, I bet you cant wait to get back in a petrol V8! smile

We have done almost 10k miles since the beginning of last November already in the 640d so it maybe makes some sense for us and when we ran the Audi TTS we were forever filling it up and the 640d does have a good range and less visits for fuel but you have to put up with the diesel clatter though.

I would like to experience a 640i/650i because the 640d is a lovely motor but I would imagine its a stunning car with a nice petrol engine under the bonnet for sure.

I agree for you it may make sense.

I assumed the 0% finance and £20ish k discount was not just limited to the 640d, if that is the case I understand why people are buying it. I am on the lookout for a 640i M-Sport for my dad.

Good stuff and my heart lies with petrol for a fact and I am sure your dad will be very happy in a 640i thumbup

The same discounts are available on the 40i/50i but perhaps not the 0%

Most 6ers are presumably purchased/owned/hired via PCP and contract hire.

You just don't see deals being offered on the 640i.

If you look at www.howmanyleft.co.uk there is a sprinkling of 640i models compared with 640d. (And the 640d MSports vastly outnumber the SEs now - ISTR looking a couple of years back the ratio was about 3:1 - now it's more like 6:1 or 7:1).

Yep if you're a cash buyer then you can get a good deal on the petrol models but they don't offer the cheap or 0% finance rates.

But then they do on the M6 so the middle gets missed out.
