Which one?
The bottom one says ... M635 csi
BMW Motorsport introduced M 635 CSi in Europe at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1983. It is essentially an E24 powered by the powerplant of the BMW M1 - the M88 (286 PS (210 kW; 282 hp)). Most of the cars were equipped with special metric 415 mm diameter wheels requiring Michelin TRX tires.

But it is clearly not an M635. It looks like an 8 series with an E38 7 series front. Could simply be a photo montage rather than a real proto type. The bottom one says ... M635 csi

I can't see the image properly.
Can you take a pic of the car again, but in decent daylight, and tap the dark area if using a phone so it lightens it a bit to bring out the shadow detail?
I'm intrigued.
I will ask my cousin. I am not sure if he still has the paper. I am hoping someone on here can shed some light. Can you take a pic of the car again, but in decent daylight, and tap the dark area if using a phone so it lightens it a bit to bring out the shadow detail?

Looks like a prototype for the replacement to the original 6 Series - which would tie in with it having what looks like an E38 style front end as that was what was being penned around the time the original 6 Series went out of production.
I guess they decided not to bother.
Agree. I guess they decided not to bother.
What date is the magazine ?. Does anyone have a picture of the 8 series prototype the 830i.
The car in the picture does seem to have a non-existent Hoffmeister kink, which is noticeable on the 8 series.
Is it just me, or do the lines from the C pillar to the back look a little Audi A4
The 8 series prototypes were the 6 pictured above, the 8 series body prototypes looked pretty much the same except for the pop up lights, unless there were earlier hidden designs.
BMW were then told they had to be the minimum height off the road, no way around it, so the pop ups were added.
I thought I knew all of the weird concepts, there was an E34 2 dr, and a cabrio E34 and 8 series.
There was a V16 7 series too, the "Goldfish", which was the code name for the engine. It was so big, the radiator was in the boot with huge scoops on the sides.

The pics you have put up are photoshopped, but they still don't relate to the original pic.
The original has E30 M3 style box arches and skirts, a 2 door E31-ish roof, and E38 headlights.
Maybe it is a scan of a photoshop, etc, or an aftermarket one-off conversion.
I thought they were shopped to be honest even though i am no expert. I was desperately looking for the first pic online but no luck. The original has E30 M3 style box arches and skirts, a 2 door E31-ish roof, and E38 headlights.
