Just bought a set of genuine bmw 18's with Dunlop winter sports for an X3 with 7mm of tread all round and completely mint

Cost £650

New price £2500

Sold my e90 genuine wheels set with 17's for £550

When I look at eBay etc .. I'd say there or there abouts is the going rate for used wheelsets

Tyres on their own .. My guess £50 max each for used in good condition with loads of tread .. Down to 3 or 4 mm .. Not really worth anything

winter tyres should be valued about 0% at around 4-5mm as it is recommended to change them at that tread deopth to make it worth while using them. Minus also any value of any warranty available to original purchaser and the risk associated with buying second hand, and postage, id say you should be looking for 60-65%
Marketing clap trap. I run them much lower than that and while the performance in deep snow tails off you still have the benefit of the winter compound on cold roads. At anything down to 3mm you will still be passing cars on summer tyres in snow.

Practically speaking you're right....but only if the 3mm tread tyres were already on your car. I run my winter tyres down to about that, too.

However, I think the OP's original point was what would a fair price for used winter tyres with just 7-8mm of tread left on them be? What % of their original price?

I'm guessing used winter tyres with 3mm of tread would not be an economic proposition for any potential buyer?

Nope, the original q was how much for hardly used (7-8mm).

Wheels don't sell for much money.

People buying used tyres are trying to save money. They are buying used tyres to fit on their own wheels.

Used tyres on their own sell for good money.
