At first it was only noticeable at night but now even at day, how the hell has this happened? Is it a warranty issue as it's going in for its first service next week?

Apart from commenting on how dirty your dash looks, I assume this isn't a mark or scratch from fingernails etc?

Yeah it does look pretty dusty on the pic but the sun was shining on it, the car is actually quite clean.

No it's not a nail scratch, I'm the only one who uses it and I have short nails, it started a while back at night you could see the cracks with the background lights but it's got worse over time, it's not like the buttons have really been used that much.

My 1 series has done it too, didn't realise it was a warranty fix until I read this

Glad I spotted this, my F30 company car was a year old last month and due it's second service (40k miles) on Thursday. Buttons 1-4 on mine have this issue and has been annoying me as you see the orange backlight through the crack when it's dark.

Does anyone know whether BMW are aware of this issue if my dealership kick up a fuss?

That dash looks like a biohazard, but to answer your question no.

Had that same problem after only 6 months, they replaced the panel under warranty. There's a bad batch of buttons out there

I hope you didn't pay him...

Your buttons look a bit faded as well? Here is a similar photo of mine.

Mine is going in on Thursday for its service and have let North Oxford BMW know so hopefully it gets fixed. Mine is a 63 plate.

Just the sun shining on the buttons, that's why it's picking up the dust.

Shocking build/material quality and to be honest just about sums up the f3x series interior.

Still relatively early days with mine (only a couple of months old) but I have to say I don't recognise a lot of these issues with build and poor quality interior materials. To some extent I suppose it depends on what your reference point is but I'd say the interior in my F31 is a clear step-up from my E92; no squeaks or rattles, the doors shut with a nice thunk and if you have a prod at the plastics on the centre console or around the rear view mirror where the map reading lights are it all feels reasonably solid and much better than the E9x IMO. In fairness I would agree that the E92 was in some respects a backwards step from the E46 but the leather in my old E46 330cd (Montana?) was no better than the Dakota in the F31; the nappa in my M3 CS was better than either but relatively speaking that was also a more expensive car! As I say, it's early days but I wouldn't really criticise the build quality on my F31 which is pretty much in line with my expectations - just wish I could say the same for the fuel consumption!!

Just had mine serviced and looks as though the entire head unit was replaced too as a result of the cracked buttons.

Interesting. I wonder if my F21 got this issue I could persuade the dealer to replace the head unit and install Pro Nav too FOC! scratchchinwink

My car has just turned 2 years old and the buttons have cracked again, it's due a service in 9,000 miles so will wait until then, when it'll be on 74,000.

Looks like another warranty replacement
