Daft question, the car is going in tomorrow for its first service, I can't find a service book, is it all recorded on the key now so no need for a book?

Cheers

Hi

F30's have electronic service history, so there is no need for a service booksmile

Hi there. Sorry to hijact the thread; i am a newbie to the site and am looking to buy a 2yr old F30 320D efficientdymanics (37k miles on the dashboard)

Basically was told exactly the same by the dealer that all service history is stored electronically and therefore no physical log book. I managed to call up the BMW garage the last owner used and they gave me a full service record as well for the last 2 years, which seems to tally up with what the onboard computer display told me (it has a section for service history too).

IS there anything else I have missed re: checking the car's service history? Would it be worthwhile at all to buy a blank service book (they are not cheap if its BMW brand) and went back to the garage to get them to stamp it (on top of the electronic history)??

Thanks!

This is a new way to keep the cars within the dealer service network. A nasty scam in my opinion.

If you go to purchase one used or try and sell it, you cannot prove the history.

I will most certainly purchase a service book for about £35 if I ever get a car that comes without one to prove to any buyer that the car has been serviced, whether it was with a main dealer or an independent. I would also knock down any offer I made whilst purchasing one if the seller could not show me documentary proof of its service history.

If I lose the service book, thats my loss, if BMW fail to locate or prove the history, that is also my loss.

BMW dont even have diagnostics for the E46 anymore as they consider it an obsolete car, what if they go the same way with your valuable service history?

Nope, rubber stamp, a signature and the copy invoice where possible is what I will show/look for.

Thanks for your confirmation; that's exactly what i thought.

The original seller is a fleet company and the garage they used is a BMW approved garage; the service detail provided by both all tally up so the service history should be genuine; I will try to knock the price down a bit and get a hard copy service book sorted!

Thank you!!
