Not suggesting it is as good as aftermarket set up but the adaptive suspension provides great handling - and I comment as a a GT3 and a 968 race car owner, not a bus driver. Seems odd to me that standard car could be so crap.

The selective auto main beam with the visibility pack is amazing. Both our other cars have 'normal' auto main beam and it never gets used, but this system is brilliant. Getting stuck behind a numpty that drives my local rural roads without main beam isn't an issue any more, as my lights do it for them without dazzling them.

Last summer we reached the point where we needed 2 cars capable of carrying the (big) dog and family kit, so had to buy a 2nd practical car. Having previously had a E91 335d and seeing the 25% broker discounts on the F31 that our dealer matched, it was the obvious choice.

Had it 3 months now and it's perfect family transport. It's not 'exciting', but it covers ground very quickly and very effortlessly. Where Mrs DD would be nervous as a passenger in our C63, she doesn't bat an eyelid in the 335d despite doing similar speeds.

We like it so much that Mrs DD has just ordered an X3 35d to replace her 30d. We had an X3 35d demonstrator for the weekend and, if anything, the engine was more impressive in the X3 - it felt quicker than the quoted 5.3 seconds to 62mph. I suspect (or hope) my 1500 mile 335d still has some loosening up to do though, as the 6000 mile X3 actually felt marginally quicker.

So just as an update to the thread, been getting about 35mpg in this car with normal driving back and forth to work. 18 miles each way mix of motorways and A/B with some country roads, so a fair mix.

Today used the eco mode with eco tips to mmodify my driving. kept the braking and acceleration on four stars for the whole morning journey in sub zero weather.

At the end of 18 miles I had done 56mpg!!

Might not be much to some but for me thats pretty stunning.

As a comparison, The M5 was getting 23mph travelling like a nun, and the weekly fill up would cost £85-90. This is getting nearly two and a half weeks between fill ups, and costs about £55.

mpg not the be all and end all of motoring but still pretty impressive.

Been discussing generally poor mpg of the F30 335d over the f10 535d mpg - one owner is getting averages of 50+mpg over a tank and on M ways getting 65mpg @74mph.

We don't understand why the same engine in a lighter car on average gets far worse mpg. Assumption is how its driven v the 5.

Isn't the 335d only available as AWD compared with the 535d?

That will make more difference than an extra 100lb curb weight.

Not looked at the gear ratios either, the 5 maybe far better geared for sitting at 85mph.

Can anyone advise on seat colour?

Black or Oyster? Love the Oyster but thinking of residual / sale-ability and muck! I have two young boys who like football and getting muddy.

What colour paint? Mine's estoril blue with oyster and I think it looks great. Doesn't show mud any more than on black leather and wipes off easy enough. Not had it long enough to see if it suffers from blue dye transfer from jeans though. And choose what you like, not what you think the next owner will want.

The 535d is 230lb heavier. I think that the gear ratios are the same - at 85mph the 335d is doing around 1900 rpm, which is the same as the 535d from memory. xDrive will make a difference, but the main one is probably driving style in that the smaller, lighter car encourages a more aggressive style of driving. I found that I get very similar economy from both cars - around 40mpg.

I bet she does getmecoat

I've been toying with the idea of an F31 335d for some time; my brother ordered a high spec car and took delivery last summer which has convinced me that its a perfect all-rounder for the missus - taking discount into consideration - even though she'd prefer an X3 35d.

I had parked the idea with the intention of waiting for LCI but now that discounts are on the increase in the run-up to the refresh, I'm sorely tempted again.

What PCP rates are they doing on these, is it still 4.9% APR?

I'm on 5.9%... which reflects the BMW website. Stratstone offering 4.9 on their website but the dealer I've gone with said BMW govern the rate as it is their finance. Never spoken to stratstone. Either way I got a better on the road price than Stratstone are offering.

ETA: Looks like the facelift will be the 4 series front end to me. Not sure about interior, next to nothing it seems.

Still can't decide colour.... Arghhhhh

For me Oyster...we have black in the 330i and ivory white in the 640d and the interior is depressing in the 330 whereas the interior in the 640 just feels more special because of the lighter leather...sod residual/sale ability and go Oyster!

We have a 6 year old daughter...I just put her in the boot when we go out in the 640!! hehe

Yep for me the monochromat wins on the BMW every time. For the last six or seven BMW's I've had they have either been black with white seats or white with black seats. I don't do colours.
