Hope to find some help regarding the micro filter service on my 2007 730d.

I took the car in to the local BMW dealer for an oil service recently and was told the car was also due (according to the data on the key) a micro filter service. This will be an additional £365 sir yikes

I was aware of the micro filter service pricing from other threads (oem air filter, fuel filter and 2 x pollen filters cost about £160 I think leaving £200 for labour for what I'd figure to be a 20 minute job! I said no thanks, just do the oil please.

When the car came back I checked and OBC said the micro filter service was due in about 12k miles.

My question is what's the difference (if any?) between the OBC micro filter service and the air filter/fuel filter/pollen filter service the garage says I'm due as part of this oil service?

If the dealer's correct I'll get my local garage to do the job along with the rear brake pads as for both they'll charge 40 mins labour @ £35/hr plus VAT plus the cost of parts (OEM for the warranty naturally)

I think you have your filters confused. The micro filter is the cabin or pollen filter and a cheap easy job. The other filters I have no idea on a 7. Have you put your details in here https://www.bmw-service.co.uk?

This. Microfilter service is the same as pollen filters. £365 to change them is an absolute joke!

Fuel filter isn't part of standard scope service on E65s (at least not on a 745i) yet I had mine done anyway.

I was offered the oil, microfilter, fuel and air filter service. On the BMW service pricing website this includes the microfilter, air and fuel filter but I have a microfilter service item on the OBC and am confused about the difference because they're difference items on the OBC but not on the price list.

For the oil plus micro, fuel and air filters the BMW price is £516 which is an additional £316 over the oil service (this wasn't the price offered by my local dealer as they try to get you to pay more than the BMW website!).

You're confused about the difference between the microfilter and what exactly?

The OBC specifies a Microfilter service and the BMW Servicing Pricing menu talks about Oil and Microfilter service like they're related in some way? If the microfilter is the pollen filter why do BMW link them with the oil change as they're completely unrelated. Also why did the dealer say the key fob stated the pollen/air/fuel filter was needed.

I think I'm going to get them all done by my local garage for £42 plus parts at cost as thier total for all the filters plus rear brakes comes to only slightly more than the dealer wants for just the filters.

They did that because, generally, the microfilter had to be changed every 2-3 oil change (I can't remember exactly). But just listen to your obc. If it says it doesn't need doing, and your air con works fine without funny noises or smells and you don't sneeze a lot in the summer with the air con on I wouldn't change he it until the obc says to.

I've just changed these myself and anyone paying BMW (or anyone really) to do this needs their head seen to.

£25 for both filters and a flat headed screwdriver and it takes 2 minutes. What BMW charge extra for this is a disgrace.

All good bar these 2 codes I've found- https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Had I read somewhere before about you saying the gearbox starting off in first rather than second? It certainly seems to. It's not terrible but I think it could definitely be smoother if it started in second.

No idea about the level sensor I'm afraid. The engine fan was a fault code I had, I can't remember exactly but my indy said it's not vital, it's an axillary fan and not the main engine/rad fan, he said unless you're stuck in traffic for a long time on a baking hot day with the air con on full, it'd not be a problem in the UK.

Gearbox always starts off in 1st. I never found it to be unsmooth aside from perhaps revving a bit higher than I'd like from cold. I'd often set off and immediately put the gearbox through sport, manual and back to normal mode and it'd shift earlier on that 1st gear change on cold mornings. Otherwise I'd never found it was jerky once I'd had some work done to the box.

I don't think I'd go quite as far as jerky but it's definitely the most obvious change the box makes.
