BMW V8 engine rebuild - any recomendations
Discussion
Hi all, im new to the BMW section after selling my Cerbera and purchased a 4.6is BMW x5. Unfortunately the timing chain guides have broken and chains have slipped leaving the engine sounding like a bag of spanners. The 4.6 engine is rare as rocking horse poo and i am struggling to find a replacement. My ideal would be to have my engine rebuilt with new shells, valves etc etc as then at least i know the condition of it rather than keeping my fingers crossed that a second hand lump was ok.
So i was wondering if anyone knew of an engine specialist who can rebuild the v8 engine (i think mine is a m62 version). There are various 'local' engine places near me who do general engine building but i would rather use someone who is recommended rather than a shot in the dark. Ive asked on the X5 forums but no one seems to know of anyone. It doesnt really matter in regards to location because i can always send the engine on a pallet to wherever.
Thanks for any advice

Might be worth giving Phil Crouch at CPC a call (best to phone rather than email) since he is highly regarded in E39 M5 circles and might just be able to help, or at least advise. He's based in Buckinghamshire and is often difficult to get hold of so be persistent! Here:

The timing chain tensioner failure is very common on the M62 V8 engine.
There is absolutely no requirement to strip the engine to repair. The parts are available as a kit and can be replaced without even engine removal.
Is this not more when it's caught in time before any chains slip? There is absolutely no requirement to strip the engine to repair. The parts are available as a kit and can be replaced without even engine removal.

Just need the full tool kit to retime the cams, crank and VANOS.
