Hi Guys

First winter with my 330D and I know the weather is very cold and diesels don't like the cold weather but in my E90 Pre LCI I'm getting 22-24MPG and 31MPG on a reasonably long run, is this normal?

The car is an auto which I know saps some MPG but I never expected it to be so bad!

Thermostats. Check it's running up to temperature.

Not right. I am getting 45mpg out of my 535d.

Is it chipped?

Diesels hate cold weather so if your car is left outside and you are doing short urban journeys its not far off.

Yes its mapped and is left outside, think the thermometers need checking as its not running up to temp after checking before

Also if you are doing short journeys it will not give high MPG

Diesels are suited to high mileage

When I had a pre-LCI 330d (manual) it delivered an average MPG around 40.

I've got a 2006 330d (E91 auto), I'm showing mid thirties mpg wise which is from town driving during the week (approx 12 miles a day) and then a longer run at the weekend (100 miles+ mostly motorway), figures are from the OBC which hasn't been reset for a while but get about 450 from the tank.

Your mpg would tell me something needs looking at.

You need to get them looked at as it won't be regenerating the DPF either. Long term that is not a good state.

How are you checking the MPG? Maps can mess up the cluster reading as it's done by calculating injection cycles - worth checking MPG tank to tank.

I'm just checking from the read out and the miles left per gallon, the temperature is definitely not correct, never seem to hit 90 so that's what I need to address before I get DPF issues

Don't know if your issue is fixed but I used to average 36-40 MPG combined in my old E90 335D auto

In my experience of 1) E36 328 auto, and 2) current Alfa 156 JTD....both OBC fuel consumption figures were way optimistic, and the only accurate way to measure mpg is as has been said, brim to brim the tank and work it out with a calculator..!
